Jekyll & Hyde 2000

The Plymouth Theatre

New York City

July 14, 2000

We have been following Jekyll and Hyde since it first played in Seattle, back in 1995.  To date, we have seen everyone who has played the dual leading role, excepting for Jack Wagner, who managed to do a couple of months at a time we just couldn't be there.  We first saw Robert Cuccioli as both Jekyll and Hyde in Seattle, and were so mesmerized by his performance that we remembered little else after we left the theatre, not the music, not the co-stars and not the cast.  We were just stunned by Robert's electrifying performance.

Since then we have seen the show 5 times on Broadway, twice again in Seattle, as well as twice in Portland, Oregon - 10 shows, 7 leading men.

I have had my picture taken with each of them, until this year, when other events kept me from meeting Sebastian Bach.  J&H has become a tradition for us now, and we see it each time we go to New York, and whenever a touring production is within a reasonable distance.

We have loved every single one of these very talented gentlemen, Robert Cuccioli, of course, but Rob Evan, Chuck Wagner, Brian Noonan, Joey Mahowald, Frank Mastrone, and Sebastian Bach have each managed to make the show their own.  We are proud to be long-time Jekkies, and will happily continue to attend the show, as well as The Scarlet Pimpernel at every opportunity.  We have had so much fun seeing so many different interpretations of the several roles in these two shows, and the performers that we have met and talked to have all been talented, gracious and dedicated to making these demanding roles new and different.

Here's this year's collection of J&H pictures.  Click on them to see them full size please.

In July,  we attended J&H again with some of our Ballfest friends, and stopped by the stage door long enough to say hello to Andrea Rivette, who we had met last summer in Seattle.  Back then our camera battery chose that precise moment to quit working, and Andrea tried so hard to get it working again - with no luck at all.  This year, armed with fresh batteries, we managed to get a couple of great pictures of her.  She is quite the radiant young bride, and as gracious as ever.

We also finally got a good picture of George Merritt, and Barrie Ingham, and welcomed Martin Van Treuren back to the show again and said hi to John Tracy Egan.  Being there brought back so many memories, as the very first show we ever actually saw *on Broadway* was Scarlet Pimpernel in April of 1998 - another of Frank Wildhorn's shows, and only half a block up the same street at the Plymouth Theatre.

These 2 theatres, The Plymouth and The Minskoff, and these two shows were where our wonderful hobby of "Stagedooring" actually got started.  (I have never counted meeting David Burnham, since we had never intended to be at that particular stage door.)
