Madagascar has a unique and highly threatened avifauna, with 106 endemic species and a further 25 species limited to the region. The fourth largest island in the world, it is home to 20 species of lemur. We expect to see more than a hundred Malagasy endemics in only 3 weeks or so, with more possible during the extension. Travel and facilities will be basic at times but never too punishing. See the August newsletter for target species. Our itinerary will include Bonamary, Labetsiboka Estuary, Ampijora (three days), Perinet (2 days), Ranomafana (5 days), Ihosy, Zombisty Forest, Tulear, and Ifaty (2 days). If there is enough interest, the extension will take us to Masoala Penninsula and Maroansetra.

Secure a spot on this trip by sending $50 to Mike Flieg. A field checklist and the 1999 trip report will be forwarded upon receipt.

Oct. 7-30, 2001.  ~$3,600
