War-torn and famine-stricken Ethiopia may seem like an unlikely place to stage a birding tour.  It's actually a birding secret, known to the brits as one of the best destinations in Africa to see localized endemics.  Our ground agent will avoid the trouble spots and take you directly to nearly all of the country's endemics.  Merid Nega Gabremicael is about the best local authority on the country's birds and Village Ethiopia's drivers speak several of the tribal languages and are good mechanics.  We'll suggest you bring a tent and plan to camp at the Ruspoli Turaco site.  Our 2000 trip was so successful that we expect a repeat in 2001 or 2002.  See our trip report for details.
