<-- This is Chris and Corky at Chris' house.  Corky is reluctantly placating Chris by wearing a UNC hat.  Corky really likes the Gators of UF, but he can't risk letting Chris know!  Corky is a six year old fun lovin' Golden Retriever, who loves to catch Frisbees and fetch tennis balls. (But  he plays Frisbee only a couple of times a year to avoid injury). He is a great companion for Chris and his mom, Charlotte.  Corky is always looking to go for a ride in the station wagon, and will jump in if the back is left open for any time at all!

We got Corky when he was 6 weeks old from a "backyard breeder" before we knew any better.  By the age of four months Corky was already having clicking in his hips and the vet was concerned about the possibility of hip dysplasia.  He also developed a limp in his right front leg as a result of a shoulder problem, OCD.  Both of these are potentially genetic.  Reputable breeders screen their dogs before they breed and do not breed if dysplasia is present.  Corky was not a candidate for hip surgery because he had developed arthritic changes by 7 months.  The vet was able to perform surgery on his shoulder which was successful.

He engages in moderate exercise and the hip dysplasia has not yet become disabling.  Corky has a wonderful temperament and a lot of drive.  He would have made a great obedience, field and tracking dog but Charlotte and Chris are just glad to have him for their buddy.
