Concert Notes:

Patty Tiffany was Dave Miller's (Jeff's tenant) Drama Coach in college.

William Katt, starred in the video version of Pippin...have loved him for years.  He also did some TV work..."Greatest American Hero" and some Perry Mason...with both his mother and dad.  He didn't leave via the lobby either.  He did not perform on Sunday.

Jeff, Merrill, Samantha and I saw James Barbour in "Beauty and the Beast" at the Shubert Theatre in LA (summer of 1996 I believe.)  He replaced Terrance Mann...He is quite tall, handsome, soft spoken and very nice.

Davis Gaines, Patrick Cassidy and Jamie Barbour (Beauty and the Beast, LA) absolutely blew everyone away.

Rex Smith was gorgeous and sexy as ever....and did a great number.  The crowd loved him!  Sexy Rexy was on "As the World Turns" for several years, was Joe Gillis in the Canadian National Tour of "Sunset Boulevard" and is a friend of Jeff Hyslop (a former Phantom of the Opera) and Victoria Langton...friends of mine from Vancouver.  He did not come into the lobby either night.  I had sent him a note during the intermission on Sunday, and truly hoped he would join us briefly, but he didn't.  A disappointment I suppose...but survivable.  We knew that his new fiancé was backstage with him, and maybe seeing fans was not his highest priority that day!  He had just become engaged that day...and I was also told that this may have played a part in him leaving by a seperate door and going directly to the cast party...avoiding fans entirely.

I met Rex Reed on Sunday...he is quiet, soft-spoken and very nice.  He said this was the first year he had been invited...loved it...hopes he will be invited every year.  He also said it was the greatest array of talent he had ever seen on one stage, in one place and at one time in his entire life.  Quite a statement I thought.  He said he would look for me next year, and thanked me for coming so far.

We literally ran into both Shirley Jones, and Patrick Cassidy on Sunday, on the way to the car...they were both gorgeous, and it was a great performance by Patrick.  He was a lot of fun really.... When I told Patrick that it was me who was screaming loudest at his performance both nights, he asked me what I was doing later...and I asked him what he had in mind...he said oh-oh, I may be in trouble here, maybe I better ask my wife...I said I had better ask my husband as well.  So it was just sort of a nice little exchange, we did take pictures and got autographs of Shirley and Patrick.  He is tall, and completely gorgeous.  Jeff said he steamed my glasses!  I didn't tell Patrick that.  Had to save something for next year!!!

Remembered Janis Paige from my own high school days...she is still quite beautiful...had seen her in Pajama Game...years and years ago...way back in the beginning of Bob Fosse's career...(another all-time favorite...who sadly is no longer with us.)

Dale Kristien had been Cristine to Davis Gaines' Phantom in LA...she is gorgeous and still "Christine" in every word and gesture...beautiful!

I had seen Carol Cook ( a real Carole Channing look alike and sound alike) in "Hello Dolly" at least 30 yrs ago in Honolulu, Hawaii, when Merrill was stationed there.  I did meet her and told her that.  She seemed quite pleased, and surprised I would remember her...I assured her she was quite unforgettable.  I have since been lucky enough to have also seen Carole Channing here in Seattle.

Davis Gaines brought the house down...no surprise!  Beyond question the hit of the show.  Terrific singer...charming personality.  He sang "If Ever I Would Leave You"  which was a perfect choice!!!  That night I could see how he managed to be so successful in Phantom of the Opera...the man is sensual...totally.  Now I know why his many fans are so gone over him, especially after having heard him do "Oh Holy Night" at the ABC-TV tree lighting in LA before Christmas...another benefit, by the way, for a children's hospital fund.  (We didn't see him after the show.)

The two-CD live recording of the 14th Annual S.T.A.G.E. benefit at the Luckman Theatre in Los Angeles is available from Varese Sarabande.  My friends and I will be the ones that can be heard screaming the loudest, no doubt!  Jeff, Tom and Dave were a bit more subdued...next year they may want to sit somewhere else!!!  Not really...they all had a great time.  Just being a part of this was truly exciting, and unforgettable.
