THE BABY-REBEL LITTERS
Babydoll, one of the bitches from the original Misty - Bones breeding, turned out to be a fabulous blending of the strengths of her parents. From Misty, Baby had a solid rear assembly; from Bones, she had a strong, powerful front. Following her retirement from active showing in Albany, Georgia in 1997, we decided the time had come to consider breeding Baby. She was three years old and in excellent physical condition.
With this breeding, we wanted to improve on Baby's hips and elbows, and to emphasize size. Our search led us to Rebel, another Bones offspring, whom we co-owned with Jerrilyn Petty. Because both Bones and Misty were total outcrosses, this tight line breeding was not cause for concern.
By doubling back on Bones, we hoped for improved structure, health and longevity, and to increase the size of our hounds. Bones comes from a line of long-lived and exceptionally healthy hounds and we wanted to produce puppies who would enjoy longer, more active lives. From Rebel, we also hoped to pull the strong hips and elbows from Annie, Rebel's mother.
Baby came into season in December and the litter was whelped February 8, 1998. This litter was named after Fleetwood Mac songs. Because the first litter produced only five puppies, we decided to repeat the breeding. A second litter was whelped in 1999. This litter was named after great rock-n-roll bands.
