Camp Kon-O-Kwee/Spencer Corral

When some of us are not out riding or busy at work we try to find ways to get together and this was the case on Saturday, May 5th. Eighteen people volunteered their time on such a beautiful day to build a corral and the project was a huge success. We pulled together and built 560 feet of three-rail split rail fence which included an 8'swinging gate. We also cleared brush, cut down trees and limbs and even did a  little stump and rock removing.

We tested our volunteers' abilities when we hit and damaged a water line that runs through the camp. But thanks to Tony, Doug, Jim and Amanda, who literally dove in and made short work of hand digging and cleaning out the muddy, murky mess and repaired the line in no time flat.

With the different types of knowledge and the different tools some of our helpers brought we were able to complete the entire project in about six hours.

Thanks to the dinining staff at the Camp, our members were welcomed with breakfast and also served a well deserved lunch. We would also like to thank Aunt Barb for the crumb cake and chocolate chip cookies, and Uncle Harrry for the cold ones (pop) and the 35 mm film he donated to us. A special thanks to the Kon-O-Kwee staff, especially Fred (the hole digger) and Bob (Fred's right hand man) and Uncle Kevin for their assistance throughout the day.

Everyone who participated received a special West Penn HOG Volunteer Pin for their efforts. So next time if you can, come out and lend a hand. This is a great way for new members to get to know other chapter members and for the "Old Gang" to get together and tell a few stories.

Thanks again to the following volunteers: Shawn B., Chuck B., Bob B., Rick C., Jim J., Doug J., Bim K., Keith K., Jean M., Ray M., Tony P., Tom P., Chrissy R., Bill S.,     Amanda S., Joe S. and Terri T.

Ride Safe,

Tank

THANK-YOU LOREEKAY!!

Loreekay, Chapter Member, of Wampum Improvement Center (see her ad in newsletter) provided at a discounted price the split rail fencing used to build the corral on May 6th by Chapter volunteers. Due to Loreekay's generous offer, Camp Kon-O-Kwee was able to afford to build the corral for this summer. Thank you for your contribution to this project. The corral project was a huge success and the staff at Camp Kon-O-Kwee is very grateful

WEST PENN SUMMER PICNIC

West Penn HOG's 2001 Summer Picnic is planned for Saturday, August 25th, at the German Club in New Castle. Bill E. is looking into the cost of renting the club, as the fees have increased since last year. We are trying to hold the cost down to $10.00 or below. As always, camping will be available at no extra charge. Bike games, picnic games, food and refreshments will be provided.

Anyone interested in volunteering to run the bike games, picnic games or lead the ride from the Harley Store, please contact Rick. His number and address are listed in the newsletter.

Also, we need door prizes. If anyone can get shirts, hats, mugs, or whatever from their employers, friends, local bars, or restaurants, please bring them to a meeting and give them to Rick or Terri. The more we collect the more we can offset the cost of the picnic. It's not too early to start collecting.

Check future newsletters or West Penn's website for more details as they develop.

See you at the picnic,

Rick
