HOG DOLLARS

HOG DOLLARS are given by Bill in place of a discount to West Penn HOG members who attend meetins and certain chapter events. The HOG dollars are worth $3.00 each and can be used at New Castle Harley Davidson for goods and services. By attending meetings and events, not only will you get to have fun and meet new people, you will earn HOG dollars. Currently HOG dollars are in short supply. If you have 15 or more HOG dollars ($45.00 worth) Bill is asking that you cash them in at the store for a store credit or gift certificate.

Remember sprinG is coming so stock up now on anything from spark plugs to cleaning supplies and help Bill get some HOG dollars back for re-circulation.

hogbw.gif (5783 bytes)APRIL '01 MEETING MINUTES

The one hundred forty-seventh meeting of the West Penn HOG Chapter was held Sunday, April 1, 2001. Sign in sheet showed 75 members were present. The meeting was called to order at 10:10 a.m. by Director Wayne Dawson. After the Pledge of Allegiance a moment of silence was observed.

Wayne D. reported that Rich F. was in a pretty serious car accident last Saturday and is in the Allegheny General Hospital with numerous injuries. A get well card was passed around.

Activities Officer Rick T. reported that cosmic bowling went well and we had a full house. All that attended (40 people) seemed to have a good time.

Editor Melissa M. reported that a few newsletters were returned with address problems. We are attempting to correct this problem.

Good of the Chapter - Ronda B. is the West Penn HOG official webmaster and has a new webstie set up - www.trax.to/wphog If anyone would like any photos, etc... on this site e-mail these to Ronda.

Terri T. reported on the Camp Kon-O-Kwee horse program. Uncle Harry has asked if West Penn HOG would be interested in building the new corral for their horses. They'll be supplying all equipment and material, they just need manpower/woman power. This is scheduled for May 5 and 6. There was a sign up sheet for anyone interested in volunteering. (Lunch will be provided for all that help.) We'll be starting at 8:00 a.m. See Rick or Terri for directions. Terri also asked if anyone is interested in helping when we assist the campers riding the horses to giver her their name and number so we can contact them when we are needed.

Unfinished Business - Wayne D. reported on the National HOG and new chapter flag that is to be used during The Parade of Flags at national rallies. We must register and have a member attend the Stationary National HOG rallies to receive the rally ribbon that attaches to the chapter flag. (You do not need to ride in the parade.) Wayne and Terri debuted the new flag.

MDA Ride: Registration packets should be ready soon and be available at the Harley Store and also at the next meeting.

The drawing was held for the the survey and the winning ticket was #1162. The winner was present.

New Business - Road Clean Up, April 28 @ 10:00 a.m. Meet at the Harley Store.

Next month's membership meeting will change to the first Tuesday of the month @ 7:30 p.m.

Bill B. reported that New Castle Harley Davidson will be co-sponsore of bike nights at North Park Deckhouse every Tuesday @ 6 p.m. starting May 1st.

Wayne D. distributed HOG updates to officers to insert into their chapter handbooks.

A brief discussion was held on whether to rotate meetings Sunday a.m. in the winter and Tuesday nights in the summer or have on Tuesday nights all year. A show of hands was held. Rotating meetings will be continued for now.

Meeting was adjourned at 10:50 a.m.

Respectfully Submitted,

Tom Roth

SUNDAY, MAY 20th

AD SPACES ARE STILL AVAILABLE

As you read through this newsletter, you can see that the new advertisers for the 2001 year are very minimal. Please keep in mind the importance of finding companies / individuals to purchase these spaces. As mentioned in past months, the idea of selling ad space is aimed to help defer some of the expenses the chapter incurs, like the monthly newsletter. In years past West Penn has done several other things to raise money such as a spahetti dinner and various raffles. As interest grew less and less in those options, we decided to try the ad selling approach. As always, we are open to hear any other ideas that anyone may have, but if the ads do not sell, the costs may have to be absorbed by raising the yearly dues and/or the cost of our activities. Please try to think of someone that may be interested in a space. The prices are as follows: 6 mo=$50.00 1 yr. = $85.00

CHAPTER NAME TAGS

We will be ordering chapter name tags in upcoming months. The tags will cost $8.95 and we must have at least 12 to place an order. We will have one to view and order forms at May's meeting.

MEMBERSHIP CARDS

Enclosed in this newsletter is your new West Penn Chapter Member-   ship card. We will be asking for these cards through out the year. Please make sure to have it available when signing up to participate in chapter activities since the chapter is 300-plus members, and we are not familiar with  all members. This will be the only way to prove your membership status, which in turn, will effect benefits you will receive as a member vs. participating as a non-member. EACH YEAR NEW CARDS "WILL NOT" BE ISSUED. New members will get cards accordingly and each April a date sticker will be mailed to everyone to stick on the back of the cards. If you do not receive your card in this newsletter, please contact me. I will be sure to issue one to you.

Thanks,

Melissa

CAMP KON-O-KWEE/SPENCER ACTIVITIES

SUMMER HORSE PROGRAM

It is time once again to help the campers at Camp Spencer enjoy a horse ride. Camp Spencer is a YMCA Camp for the physically and mentally challenged. As volunteers we assist the camp counselors with putting the campers on the horses and then walking beside the horses as they are led by the Camp Staff. The Campers really look forward to the horse rides. Let's not disappoint them.

The Camp has not determined what day of the week will work into the schedule. Please call me with your name and telephone number so I can contact you when the starting day has been determined.

The meeting place is at the barn at Camp Spencer, with the rides beginning at 7 p.m. Let me know if you need directions.

This program goes on rain or shine.

Thank you,

Terri

BD06808_.WMF (16868 bytes)CORRAL VOLUNTEER DAYS

SATURDAY & SUNDAY

MAY 5 AND 6, 2001

Camp Kon-O-Kwee has requested the help of West Penn HOG Chapter to fence in an area for a temporary corral for the horses. All material will be supplied by the Camp. There will be a tractor with a post hole digger and an operator.  Wear your work clothes and boots. Also bring your own work gloves. The area may still be muddy from all of the construction. If you have your own hand tools (hammers, tape measures, etc...) please bring them too.

We need volunteers to set posts and string wire or nail boards. The camp is undergoing major construction this summer and help is in short supply. The horses will arrive the first week in June and the corral needs to be completed by then.

Please call Rick and give him your name and phone number if you can help either day.

Camp Kon-O-Kwee would not have asked for our help if they didn't think we could handle job. Let's not let them down.

Non-member guests are welcome to help with this project along with all West Penn members. (Men, women, young or old)

Camp will provide lunch. Your reward will be meeting the famous Uncle Harry and Aunt Barb, and knowing that your help will be appreciated by many. You will understand what we mean after you meet these two people and see the Camp.

Sincerely,

Officers of West Penn HOG

Uncle Harry & Aunt Barb.

HELP IS ALWAYS NEEDED AND APPRECIATED!!

PLEASE TRY TO SET ASIDE THE TIME TO PARTICIPATE IN THESE WORTH WHILE ACTIVITIES.
