CAT FAMILY

of the South
 Largest of the African cat, the lion is very sociable and very strong. Roaring advertises a lion's presence within his territory, and grunts calls the cubs.

 


 The leopard have secretive habits and a wary nature. They are immensly strong. They are solitary animals and activity is primarily nocturnal.



 

 

 

 

 

 

 The cheetah is the fastest land mammal with speeds of 75km/h. They hunt by day and are sometimes confused with the leopard. They have the characteristicThey hunt by day and are sometimes confused with the leopard.

They have the characteristic black 'tear-mark' and the head is smaller than the leopard.

 

 


 Nocturnal and usually solitary. The caracal has distinctive long pointed ears, tipped by a tuft of black hair.

 


 The serval is slender, long-legged and mainly nocturnal.

 

 

 Solitary and nocturnal the African wildcat is similar to the domestic cat. It has longer legs and rich red colour on the back of it's ears.

 



Of course we all know the house-cat.
