[June 13,
2000] Shirley Manson of the phenomenal
rock band Garbage comments on Sinéad's
new album Faith and Courage. In a special section of their official
website, the singer writes: "Listened to the
new Sinéad O'Connor
CD today and felt mildly disappointed. It's not that it doesn't have its
moments... it most certainly does (her voice and lyrics are sublime as
always). But there's something about it that doesn't quite slay me. Maybe
it's just one of these records I'll have to listen to a couple more times
before I fall head over heels in love with it. I hope so. I've been so
looking forward to this record for a long time now."
-
[June 13,
2000] The new Sinéad album Faith
and Courage hit the stores today. The album is being promoted extensively
throughout the States, but there's not much promotion at the other side
of the Atlantic; in the UK and other European countries. The album made
a spectacular debut on most of the internet sales charts, making its way
into the Top 20 in major stores like CDNOW
and Amazon. The Billboard debut was
rather poor, though. According to the magazine, Faith and Courage
sold a moderate 35,000 copies in the first week of US release and debuted
at #55.

[June 08,
2000] A press release concerning the
June/July issue of the best-selling US lesbian magazine Curve quoted Sinéad
as saying "I'm a lesbian. Although I haven't
been very open about that, and throughout most of my life I've gone out
with blokes because I haven't necessarily been terribly comfortable about
being a lesbian. But I actually am a lesbian."In
an early interview with Hot Press, she had said, "I
don't believe there's any such thing as gay or straight. And though I have
slept with women, I am much more attracted to men."
Long after the whole saga turned into a mare's nest, Sinéad sent
a letter to Ireland's The Sunday Independent on June 26. She explained
that although honest, her previous comments had been "slightly
confused." She went on saying,
"I believe it was overcompensating of me to declare myself a lesbian. It
was not a publicity stunt. I was trying to make someone else feel better.
And have subsequently caused pain for myself."
-

[June 06,
2000] Before
even published, Sinéad's interview with Time magazine caused a stir
with the quotes taken from the press release. Sinéad is reportedly
said the key to remaining celibate is "masturbation,
which I think is God's greatest gift." But
no such quotes appear in the final edit of the interview published on the
June XX issue of the magazine. Of the incident, Time spokeswoman Diana
Pearson says: "We wrote that release from an early draft of the story.
They must have deleted that line."
-
[June 03,

the band, she performed The Emperor's New Clothes, a song Third
Eye Blind had been working up to play on their upcoming tour. The performance
was a highlight of the event. Click here
