We begin Sept. in Kemmerer, WY, waiting for our new axles!  Keeping ourselves busy, but getting pretty anxious to know where the axles were sent, and if they'll arrive before the first snow!  No deliveries over Labor Day weekend, so we went to Rendezvous at Ft. Bridger.  Guess we aren't in the middle of nowhere, like we thought!  There were more than 15,000 people there on Sunday alone.  It was interesting, and gave us an idea of what it was like over a hundred years ago when the mountain men, trappers and Indians gathered with the 'vendors' of the day at Fort Bridger, looking to buy and sell their goods.

The axles finally arrived on Sept. 10th, and were installed by that night.  We were on the road bright & early on the 11th & made it to Rawlins for our first night out. Sunday's travels got us to Cheyenne, but we began noticing a lot of smoke and backfiring from the truck when we hit the higher pass, so were happy to be off the road where we could check things out.  Made a trip to the Freightliner service center on Monday morning, but found we'd have to detour to Denver to get the Volvo serviced.  Oh, well, what else have we got besides time?  Spent a day doing the museum things in Cheyenne, then headed for Denver on Tuesday, the 14th.  The truck needed new air filter & oil, but is otherwise in good running order & should give us no more trouble.  Took advantage of being close enough to visit with some relatives & do some shopping at the outlet mall while in the neighborhood.  Back on the road on the 17th, this time going through Kansas instead of Nebraska, as we'd planned, but that was fine with us, too.  You know how they say things always come in 'threes'??  Well, just east of Colby, Kansas, we lost the tread on one of the RV tires and, along with it,  the trim around the wheel base and the cover from the outdoor electrical outlet.  Now, we've had our 'three' and we can expect smooth sailing for a long, long time, right???  The remainder of the trip was just fine, and we finally arrived at our daughter's house in Illinois, just east of St. Louis, MO, on Monday, Sept. 20th, exactly one month from the day we left Pendleton.  What a trip!  We were glad to be off the road for a while, believe me!  The rest of September was spent visiting Nanci & her family.  We plan a car trip to see some of my family in Michigan this next week, and will get more updates as soon as we're able.  Hope everyone is enjoying the same good weather we've been having….. Check back next month for more about our travels.  Hugs, Lee

If you were an NCO and stationed at Ft. Bridger, you'd get that lovely home above, left.  A commissioned officer?  Move on over to the two story on the upper right.  Ah, but become commander of the Fort and you  can live comfortably in the home to the right, complete with servants quarters, cuz you're gonna be pampered to no end!  What, you're a traveler (maybe an Rver?) or a vendor?  Make yourself comfortable in a tent or tepee of your choice…. Bring your own!
