"Sir?" The nurse leaned over Emery.

"Doctor, I think he's coming around."

The doctor moved into the room from the corridor.

"What's that, nurse? Ah, our patient awakens. Give him 50cc PK100."

Emery groaned and tried to move. The nurse quickly moved to keep him on the bed.

"Mr. Emery, you're in hospital. You were attacked."

"Yes, Mr. Emery," the doctor chimed in, "it's a good thing you'd taken the precautions you did or you would now be a dead man."

The PK100 kicked in and Emery felt well enough to speak. "Did they get her?"

"If you refer to your assailant, I'm afraid not."

Emery looked around. "When can I leave?"

"Well, you should be healed enough to leave tomorrow, but you're going to be in a bit of pain for a while."

"Pain's good for you. It builds character."
