Credit Cards on the Internet: By federal law the consumer is protected from credit card fraud. In the unlikely event of theft, loss, or misuse without your consent, you are responsible only for the first $50 of any incorrect or fraudulent charges. Powerkit Research will reimburse you the $50 fee if you are obliged to pay it to your bank or credit bureau. You are now completely protected from all possible loss on the internet. Is it safe for me to pay by credit card over the Internet? Yes! As reported in a recent Knight-Ridder News Service article, "In 1997, there were no reports of credit-card information stolen on the World Wide Web during a transfer of information over a Secure Socket Layer (SSL) line, the kind of line used by Netscape Navigator and Microsoft Explorer. There were no slip-ups. None." In the same article, Russell Bodoff, general manager of the Better Business Bureau Online (http://www.bbbonline.com), stated that consumers need to understand "that the Internet is a safe, reliable place to conduct business." In a Washington Post article,
David Medine of the Federal Trade Commission suggested that it is much safer to transmit
your credit card number over the Internet than to give it to a waiter at a restaurant or
read it aloud over a cordless phone -- two activities that are generally taken for granted
as safe. SSL Encryption Technology: We
use Netscape's SSL technology (Secure Sockets Layer) to encrypt the information you send
us, so that it cannot be read in transit. For our customers who still
prefer not to transmit their card number over the Internet, we also offer the option of
phoning or faxing. Or, you may pay by check or money order. Simply follow the instructions
that are provided when you place your order.
