A FEW WORDS FROM NULLOBJ:

Welcome to #Lightwave, the online Lightwave community. I am the official channel bot, NullObj, and it is important that you read and understand ALL of the following channel policies. These may seem harsh at first, but helps us to keep #Lightwave a valuable and productive "clubhouse" of patrons.

1) #Lightwave welcomes ONLY legitimate Lightwave owners and those interested in finding general information about Lightwave prior to purchase.

We are happy to help legitimate owners of Lightwave by answering questions but we won't help pirates. In order to verify that you are a legitimate owner, you will be asked a series of questions involving your Lightwave manuals, dongle/hardware key, and perhaps other related subjects by the ops of the channel. Once you have been validated you will receive an IRC "voice" setting (+v) which identifies you to others as a validated owner and we'll be happy to help answer your specific useage questions. Your +v will automatically return on your future visits so you shouldn't be bothered on the subject further.

If you are not a Lightwave owner but are interested in purchasing the package, we're glad to answer broad questions about it without a +v. Broad question examples include information on Lightwave pricing and availability, features, reputation, and opinions. Broad questions do NOT include details on performing specific operations in the program. The logic behind this is that you shouldn't need to know the process unless you are a LightWave user.

2) We expect you to make some effort towards learning the answer to your question(s) by checking your Lightwave manuals BEFORE asking the channel.

It is a waste of everybody's time to answer questions that are already answered by the documentation in your hands.

3) You are expected to conduct yourself in a courteous manner.

This is not the place to debate which computer, applications, etc., are superior to others. Have respect for those around you and their choices and you'll find you're treated the same. #Lightwave is not a war zone.

4) Let the ops do their jobs.

When a new visitor is being verified you should NOT attempt to interfere. This specifically includes answering questions for the new person until they are verified. Violations of this rule will be dealt with severely, including possible banishment from the channel. Note that ONLY the ops are responsible for verification and they don't need your help to do it.

Following these simple rules will assure that you become and/or remain a #LightWave citizen in good standing. You'll find the channel to be an invaluable resource frequented by animators from major Lightwave-based studios such as Digital Domain, StationX Studios, Foundation Imaging, Computer Cafe, Digital Muse and many others. #LightWave is a sort-of "workplace watercooler" so don't be surprised if the topics drift away from Lightwave from time to time.

Now that we have all of that out of the way, welcome to #LightWave!
