Triathlon Results:

It's been quite a weekend for our club. On Saturday we did a half marathon,
10k & 5k run here at the Chatuge Dam, Hayesville NC. The weather was warm
and dry and we had a good turn out. People came from all over the south as
well as Delaware and NJ. We got to use our new trails that the TVA paved
for us and the racers all showed their appreciation for the beautiful
course. After the race I headed for the house and got some sleep then got
up at 3am to head for Acworth for the North American Triathlon Series race.
Again, it was a beautiful sunrise and cool morning. This race is always
well coordinated and today was no different. If anything did go wrong I'm
sure no one noticed. I worked on the water for the swim, then at the finish
line of the run. The announcer was none other than Dave Johnson. He did a
great job along with James Rainey, Roger Partee, Fran Johnson and others
from the Tri-Atlanta Club. I strive to have races like that one.
Now, lets look ahead. This coming weekend on July 23, we are doing a 4.5
mile open water swim starting at the Fieldstone Resort, Hiawassee Ga in Lake
Chatuge. The swim crosses the NC state line about half way and ends at the
Chatuge Dam, Hayesville NC.
We are expecting between 20 & 30 swimmers to do the crossing. We will have
tee shirts and awards for youth, masters and senior swimmers in both men and
women's categories. If you don't have anything else planned and want to do
a good swim to get you ready for the Ironman events coming up, you should
give us a try. The lake is CLEAN and warm. There will be plenty of boats
on the water to go along with the swimmers. Anyone who can't do the whole
swim will have a ride on one of the boats for the rest of the race. After
the race awards will be given out at the Fieldstone Resort in the Restaurant
area. They have GREAT food and a great view of the lake. All in all it
will be a great day of fun and exercise to give you memories for a life
time. We hope to see you here. For more information, Call Scott Hanna at
828-389-6982 or email me back. I will need to know if your coming by
tomorrow to guarantee a tee shirt.
August 19 is our next triathlon race (The Summer Sizzler) We are doing a
8am International Distance race and a Sprint race at 6pm. Both races will
start at the Fieldstone Resort, Hiawassee Ga. Hope to see you at either or
both of these events.
I'll let you know how it goes!!

My thanks go out to all the racers that came to participate in the first annual Spring Fling Half Marathon and 10k run last Saturday. As is the case with most new races, the numbers weren't in the hundreds, but the quality of racer was second to none. We all had a good time and the weather was perfect. Results have been posted on the web site with photos. We have decided to add a mid summer half marathon, 10k and 5k on July 15 starting at8am. More information will be posted on the web site in a few days. Our next race to come up is the Jack Rabbit Duathlon on May 13,sponsored by the Dannon Co. It will be a 4-mile run, 12-mile road bike & 2 mile run. The start line will be just 5 miles from Hiawassee Ga at the Jack Rabbit campgrounds. Race information and registration forms can be found on the web site listed below .Once again, congratulations to Doug Nix with a winning time of 1:29.12 and Kara Miller with a 1:31.18 time to win the Spring Fling Half Marathon. Dwight Moss was the male winner of the 10k run with a time of 44.55, and Angela Duncan with a winning time of 1:03.14 for the women. See you at the races.
