Granny
On a hot summers night, In the middle of June
A far away whippoorwill, singing a tune
Fireflies flying, around in the dark
Off in the distance, we hear a loud bark
Granny on the porch, in her rocking chair
My brother and I, Oh what a pair
She watched and she laughed,
as we caught our bugs
We ran to her, to give her some hugs
She looked at us, with love in her eyes
Nothing is better, than family ties
I have to run now, I see a toad
Hopping and jumping, going toward the road
We have to run fast, it can't go far
Granny so thoughtful, she brings us a jar
My brother gets there, long before me
Picks up the toad, with so much glee
We watch it awhile, as it looks through the glass
Waiting and hoping, for it's fear to pass
He looks at us, as if to say
Please set me free, So I too can play
We open the lid, it makes a slight sound
The toad so happy, jumps to the ground
It's growing late, now time for bed
Playtime over, and we've been fed
We go inside, and close the door
The sounds of the night, we hear no more
That last glass of water, we must get
Granny said yes, just don't get wet
Now there we are, all snug in our bed
With dreams of tomorrow, filling our head
Granny bends over, and gives us a kiss
The sandman comes, with dreams of pure bliss
