Welcome to our first Concert in the Park! The Period:mid-forties; The place: Molson Park, Rosemont, Montreal. And now.... our national anthem.....

O Canada

What better way to start than with a rousing march by John Philip Sousa, followed by the Compunews Theme Song.

Imagine if you can.... a crowd of hundreds of avid music lovers awaiting the next number. Then the MC announces:"And now, for your listening pleasure.... Evergreen, as arranged and sequenced by Don Carroll. And feel free to hum or sing along, if you are so inclined." the MC would say. And sing along we would. Yes, those were the days. Evergreen

Then, there was Nat King Cole's hit , the unforgettable 'Unforgettable',

Nat King Cole's 'Unforgettable'

Puddle

Of course, in those days, every boy was a member of his neighbourhood baseball team and the following number was always well received.

Take me Out to the Ball Game

Band

Although this song had not yet been written in the forties, it surely would have proved a winner!

Blowing in the Wind

Baby

This little number always proved most popular with the 1 to 5 year-old crowd....

The Musicbox

Brat

People were generally well-behaved in those days. Well, most of them, anyway.

Evilways
(Note: bad number. Looking for a better version)

Seniors

When these numbers played.... the memories, the memories! Couples of all ages would.... oh well! Memories.....

Paradise Fuir le Bonheur I have a dream

Keyboard

Then, there was this piano player... He would never play for too long, just long enough to make us want more! He would play this little tune then, just disappear for the night. Ah memories! A few weeks later, when his regimental band would return, we would spot him on the bandstand and wonder ..... "what is he going to play tonight???" But that night, he would chose to sing.... some funny little song that would get the crowd laughing silly.... the man was also an actor! You had to be there...... I even remember the song he sang: Cecilia! What a gas! You just had to be there! Honest!

Lively little Number

Puff the Magic Dragon
Tenika's favorite tune....

Baby

Whenever the crowd became too quiet , on would come numbers such as these:

The Sting Somewhere

Rock around the clock

When we heard the first notes of that number, we realized all good things had to come to an end. It was an 'Au Revoir'..... till next week!

Auld Lang Syne

And of course, every concert ended with God Save The King!

Royal Union George VI

God Save The King
