Filippo Juvarra's Drawings - The coat of arms of Leo XI in St Peter's by Alessandro Algardi

Leo XI was Pope for just a few days, but being a Medici (the fourth and last Pope of this family) he was not forgotten and Alessandro Algardi built for him a beautiful monument (completed in 1652). At the bottom he sculpted some roses and wrote on them "SIC FLORUI" to mean that the Pope like the flower was in blossom for a very short time. Algardi is recognized as one of the most talented sculptors of his time. You may wish to see his three busts of the family Frangipane in S. Marcello al Corso.
