Renegades 14, Hwy Structures 10

The Renegades, losers of several 7th inning comebacks this season won their 4th title in 5 years after scoring 5 runs in the bottom of the 7th to defeat Highway Structures 14-10 last night at Boston Common. Highway Structures led 10-9 and needed just 3 tough outs to extend this series to a deciding third game but the never say die Bisons rallied for yet another comeback playoff win. Chris White was on the mound looking for the series clincher but Highways put the Renegades in a early hole scoring 4 runs in each of the first 2 innings for an 8-0 lead. The Renegades settled down playing more great defense holding Highways at bay while they began to chip away at the lead. They scored twice in the second and added another run in the third to close within 8-3. The Bisons pulled to within 8-7 after scoring 4 times in the fourth on an rbi double from Jamie Jackson a SAC fly from Gordon Broz, a run scoring single from Tom DiPaolo and an rbi double from Tom Haley. Highways went up 10-7 with 2 runs in the 5th but the Bisons pulled to within 1 run again at 10-9 in the sixth on a Jamie Jackson single and a SAC fly from Scott Brown. In the 7th, Highways had runners on first and second with 2 outs when Chuck Hale lined a shot down the right field line that looked like an easy double or triple but Gordon Broz made a spectacular diving grab to keep the Bisons within 1 run as they entered their final at bat. Tom DiPaolo led off the 7th with an infield single and went to second on a single by Haley. After a Brett Loosian pop out, Chris White tied the game at 10-10 with a clutch single to right field. John Megan was intentionally walked to load the bases but Keith Beaudin crushed the first pitch he saw from Hale for a championship walk-off grand slam.

After Structures closed to within 4-3, the Bisons went up 6-3 in the 5th on a Miller rbi double and a run scoring single from Chris White. The Renegades stretched their lead to 10-3 with 4 more runs in the top of the 6th inning. Renegades 7, Bridges 3

The Motor Pool Renegades knocked off the top seeded Bridge Rebels with a 7-3 win last night at the Common. Chris White, subbing for Renegade ace Al "The Nat" Miller, pitched seven brilliant innings allowing the heavy hitting Rebels just 3 runs. Defensively, the Bisons played another superb game turning 3 more double plays and received outstanding outfield play as well. The Renegades broke open a scoreless tie with 2 runs in the bottom of the third on a 2-run single by John Megan. After Bridges cut the Bison lead in half with a run in the top of the 4th, the Bisons went up 4-1 in the bottom of the inning when Kostas Kofitsas followed a Vin Digilio triple with an inside the park round tripper. But the story of the night was the pitching of Chris White and the rock solid Bison defense. The Renegades snuffed out potential Bridge rallies with 3 double plays as they turned a total of four in the series. The Bisons extended their lead to 7-1 with 3 more in the 6th inning before Bridges closed out the scoring with 2 runs in the top of the seventh. The Rebels, who have an outstanding lineup as well, closed the Bisons lead to 23-20 with a single run in the 5th and 4 more in the 6th before the Renegades added an insurance run in the top of the seventh. The Bisons will be back on the Common next Tuesday night to face FHWA....GAME NOTES.....The biggest hit of the night may not have been a hit...Brett Loosian, who has been working on his plate discipline lately, outlasted Chuck Hale for a 2-out walk to load bases setting up John Megan for his game breaking grand slam....Tom DiPaolo, who has spent more time this summer swinging a 9-iron than a Louisville Slugger, returned from a long absence and went 2 for 3 while throwing a runner out at the plate...Jamie Jackson informed Bison management that he would continue his chase of Wayne Gretky's scoring records for at least 2 more weeks before devoting all his efforts towards the Bisons
