A SEPTEMBER TO REMEMBER
September 28, 2006
The
Motor Pool Renegades finished the 2006
regular season in 4th place with
a rather mediocre 6-5-1 record but stormed
through a memorable month of September on
their way to another championship season.
Hard to believe that another summer of
softball has come to an end but the 2006
season won’t soon be forgotten. The 2006
Renegades earned this title. Unlike past
championship years where the Bisons relied
mainly on overpowering their opponents, this
year’s team won the title with great
pitching and spectacular defense. The
Renegades turned a total of 8 double plays
in the 4 playoff wins and it seemed that
everyone of those twin killings came at a
crucial part of the game. And when ace Al
“The Nat” Miller was unavailable, Chris
White stepped up and pitched two outstanding
games for the Renegades closing out both
series. Everyone contributed to this title
as the Boys of Bison won it with a
combination of hitting, pitching and
defense.
BISON
BREAK-UP PARTY?
September 28, 2006
A Renegade tradition that has not been
adhered to as much in recent years is the
annual end of the season get together but a
4th title in 5 years should warrant another
night of celebration in the Alleyway.
Hopefully a date will be set in the near
future.
PLAYOFF DOMINATION
September 28, 2006
Some Bison playoff facts.....The Renegades
are an amazing 18-0 in the playoffs during
their 4 championship seasons and since
losing game three of the 2001 finals to
Highway Structures the Bisons are 19-2
(.905) in the post season.
BROWN IS BESOTTED
September 28, 2006
It
came down to the wire for the 2nd straight
year. Not until the write-in ballots from
Cook County were counted did it become
official that Scott Brown was indeed the
winner of the 2006 Besotted Bison. Brownie
edged Kostas Kofitsas who made a late charge
but fell just short.
DEFENSE CARRYING BISONS
September 23, 2006
Through
much of the Renegade championship run during
the past 4 years, it has been the Bison bats
that have carried the team to its 3 titles.
Those bats once again led the Renegades to a
wild 24-20 win over Bridges in game one of
the semifinals but since then, it has been
the pitching and defense that has the
Renegades within one win of their 4th title.
Beginning with a game ending double play in
the playoff opener against Bridges, the
Bisons have now turned a total of 6 double
plays during the '06 post season. And when
ace Al "The Nat" Miller's sore left wing
kept him out of game two against Bridges,
Chris White stepped up and tossed a gem
allowing the hard hitting Rebels just 3
runs.
A FINALS REMATCH
September 20, 2006
Highway
Structures and the Motor Pool Renegades will
renew their playoff rivalry for the 7th time
when they face each other in Game 1 of the
2006 MSESL Finals this Friday night at the
Common. Structures currently holds a 4-2
playoff series lead that began in the 1998
league finals. Structures swept the
Renegades that year and ended Motor Pool
seasons in 1999, 2000 and 2001. The two
teams met again in 2003 when Motor Pool
finally broke through and defeated
Structures, sweeping them in the semifinals.
The Renegades made it two straight over
Highways with a 2-game sweep in last year's
finals. Motor Pool has won a total of 3
MSESL titles while Highway Structures has
totaled 12 championships since 1983
including a Celtic-like run of 11 titles in
a 13 year period between 1989 and 2001.
WHITEY MAKES A PITCH
September 15, 2006
With "The Nat" on the shelf for the next
week, Manager Loosian is in search of a
starting pitcher for game 2 against Bridges
tonight on the Common. Chris White stepped
up after the Bison game one victory and made
a pitch to take the hill but Loosian was non
committal. Whitey made one appearance on the
mound for the Bisons this year allowing 15
runs in 6 innings during the opening night
15-15 tie against Maintenance. Loosian said
tonight's starting pitcher would be a game
time decision.
RENEGADES READY FOR REBELS
September 10, 2006
The Renegades will be meeting Bridges in the
playoffs for the 3rd time in the past 5
years. Both previous meetings also took
place in the semifinals. In 2002, the
Renegades swept Bridges in two games on
their way to their first league title. The
Bisons won game one of that series at Smith
Field 17-10 after rallying from a 6-0
deficit. They had to come from behind in
game two at the Common as well, staging a
dramatic last at bat rally scoring 6 in the
7th to win 14-13. They met again in 2004
with Bridges taking that series 2 games to
1. The Bisons took the opener but lost the
next two. The Renegades nearly pulled off a
miracle rally on the Common in game three,
when after trailing 26-12, they rallied for
12 runs in the bottom of the 7th and had the
winning run at the plate before finally
losing 26-24.
BISONS FINISH 4TH
September 6, 2006
Even though the Renegades defeated Highways
15-8 last night at Smith Field, they had to
settle for a 4th place finish after FHWA
edged the Bridge Rebels 12-11 at the Common
last night. The Renegades will now open the
playoffs against Bridges while Highway
Structures will play FHWA in the other
semifinal matchup.
CLEMMIE: "I DON'T NEED STOP SIGNS"
August 24, 2006
Mike Clements doesn't like stop signs. He
ran through another one last night at the
Common and survived to talk about it, but
just barely.
