Munitions
The Munitions maintenance squadron was activated early in order to ensure support of combat air operations could commence immediately upon fighter aircraft arrival. The Navy’s RMK civilian contractor gave priority emphasis to construction of the munitions storage area (bomb dump) in order to receive, store and build-up munitions. In addition, the munitions inventory account was set up and daily reporting requirements established with the Ammunition Control Point at 2nd Air Division /7th Air Force. As fighter aircraft arrival date drew near, a revetment transfer point for loading munitions delivered from the bomb dumb onto bomb trailers and carts, and a facility for the mixing and filling of napalm tanks was established near the flight line. Coordination with US Army transportation elements relative to munitions off-load receipt and delivery from Phan Rang beach area was maintained on a daily basis.
