Battle for the Planet of Sleepless rages
In April 1999, Vertov Industries presented Battle for the Planet of
Sleepless, a multimedia expo on the grounds of Kapiolani Community
College. Included among the festivities were ten screenings of favorite
Sleepless episodes and an exhibit of artifacts presented in the Lama
(library) gallery. (Click here to see where
that was.)
Pictured above is part of just one of the glass cases, featuring props
from the show and Vertov memorabilia. We included an exhibit on music,
posters, design documents, scorched and melted plastic models, gutted
video decks and cameras, and, of course, our finest prop firearms.
(Click here to see a list of most of the stuff
that was there.)
In addition to a dozen cases, ten freestanding mannequins displayed the
full costumes of some Sleepless characters, who appeared slightly more
wooden than usual. Among the immobile, looming figures were Scanlan,
General Geebee, Azul, and Mr. Gutson, who came complete with wheelchair.
(Let us not forget the total bastard of an
action antihero, Copp Kidd.)
In conjunction with the event, the Honolulu Weekly
reviewed Sleepless,
declaring the show "intelligent" (!) Vertov team members also appeared
on KITV’s Good Morning Hawaii, where Tiny Tadani declared his
complementary breakfast "delicious."
The final ingredient to our expo was a series of ten screenings during
the month. We showcased favorites from the Sleepless library and
rarely-seen alternate recordings that could not be broadcast on
television for fear of legal repercussions. (It sounds more exciting
than it is.)
Hey, if you know of a public gallery space that would benefit from
the installation of Battle for the Planet of Sleepless or classic
show screenings, let us know.

Espionage epic PIECES OF . . . returns
The next new Sleepless episode coming to your television is our
surprising spy trilogy Pieces of . . . .
Most of our viewers remember the short, three-part action serial
"Pieces of Chloe" that premiered on Sleepless way back in 1995-1996,
but they didn’t know that was only a fraction of the full story.
This year, we bring you the uncut Pieces of . . . , with each episode
expanded to gargantuan feature length.
In addition to Chloe, we bring you a new cast of badass assassins,
flamboyant maniacs, mercenaries, secret agents, and, of course, the
President. You’ll see sinister plotting, railroad chases, espionage
tech in nations on the verge of war, and--this is our special
guarantee--you will see our characters horribly killed in every
outlandish way imaginable!
If you are a little funny in the head, you might want to dance around
your living room as you listen to the fresh music composed for Pieces,
including the all-original Pieces theme song.
If you want to know when Pieces will premiere, let us know!
