Drum Stick Carriage

This brass device was strung on the drum sling to hold the drum sticks when they were not in use. Similar items have been excavated from Civil War sites and were sold by Bannerman as surplus after the war. The colorized image of a drummer is from a series of official photographs taken in 1866 of a model wearing period uniforms. In this image he is wearing the dress uniform of an artillery drummer. The drum stick carriage appears in the image on the middle of the white drum sling.
