This Georgia native became the center of some controversy when Jackie Robinson arrived in the big leagues when he immediately wrote a letter to Branch Rickey asking to be traded. After a while Walker grew to respect Robinson's athletic abilities and the way he handled the continual abuse he received, and he called him called him "as outstanding an athlete as I never saw."
