This cake is egg free.  Mom is allergic to egg yokes, and I don't like to see her when she gets allergic.

FUDGE CAKE

2 cups sugar
2 cups all purpose flour
Mix in large bowl

1 cup shortening
1 stick butter
1 cup water
1/4 cup cocoa
Put into sauce pan and melt.  Then mix with sugar and
flour.

1/2 cup buttermilk (or sweet milk with 1 teaspoon
vinegar added.)
1 teaspoon soda
1 teaspoon vanilla
Add to mixture in large bowl.

The batter will be very thin.

Spray 9" by 13" by 2" pan with Pam.  Bake in oven for
45 minutes at 350 degrees.

Icing for Fudge Cake:

In sauce pan put 1 stick butter
                 1/4 cup cocoa
                 1/2 cup milk
                 1 pound powdered sugar
Let melt on top of stove.
Add 1 cup pecans and 1 teaspoon vanilla. 
Pour over top of cake while cake is still hot.

This cake is better the next day after making it.



Grandma took one of her sister's recepies and made it so Mom can eat it.  Actually, it can about as a mistake copying the origional, but it works and Mom loves it.
