Why
should I want to update my details? By keeping your contact
details up to date you can ensure that BCS holds accurate communication
information about your membership.
The range of BCS Connect
services that you will be able to access will be broadly determined by
your relationship with the Society and the information we hold. Therefore
it is important for these reasons that you keep your details updated if
you want to benefit from these services.
When will my data be updated? Any changes
you make to your personal data will be updated on our central database
usually straightaway.
How will I
know if my data has been updated? If you make any changes to
your personal data and can see the saved changes on-screen then your data
has been updated on our central database.
Why can I only update certain aspects of my
data? Some of the data on your record can only be validated
by BCS e.g. your membership grade and some data requires evidence of
change (such as your Post Nominal Letters).
How often should I check my details? We
recommend that you check your details at least twice a year or after
notifying us of any change to your details or if you have carried out an
amendment.
How do I know that my
data is secure? In developing our systems we have
incorporated a wide range of security technologies to prevent unauthorised
users from gaining access to the system. In addition to the security
protection provided by the technological design of the system the Society
has introduced a range of management controls including a regular audit of
the system to test it's security functionality. You may also wish to view
our Privacy Policy and
Terms and Conditions.
When accessing your personal data on the
BCS website, it is encrypted using a Secure Socket Layer (SSL).
Can anyone else change my
details? Provided that you maintain the secrecy of your PIN
and password only you and nominated staff within BCS Headquarters and your
BCS Branch will be able to change your details.
Can I change the forwarding on my BCS for life email
address? No. To change your forwarding please follow the
instructions at www.bcs.org/bcsnet
Why can't I change my post-nominal
letters? The Society requires proof of all academic
qualifications and acquisition of post-nominal letters. For the avoidance
of mis-representation the Society reserves the right to amend membership
status details.
Will I
automatically receive a new membership card if I update my personal
details? You only receive an updated membership card after
each membership renewal.
Will
my Branch automatically be advised of any changes made
online? All changes that you make will update the lists held
by the Branch network.
If I
send my updated details to HQ - instead of using BCS Connect - will they
still be updated? Yes.
