More News from the Australian Group

Mindy (27yrs) went on holiday to Queensland's Gold Coast in
mid-October. In this photo she has just kissed the pirate at Seaworld and
they are both having a good laugh about it.

While there Mindy and her mother spent a sunny afternoon at
Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary with some of the families from the Cri Du Chat
Support Group of Australia who live nearby. This is Ranon who is 6 years
old. Ranon can walk with support and is able to communicate with some words
and signs. Ranon has a rare ring chromosome which involves a loss of
material from both the short and long arm of chromosome 5. His mother would
love to hear from anyone else who has a child with a number 5 ring
chromosome.

Courtney is a very lively, happy 5 year-old. She walked at
2yrs and speaks in fairly clear sentences.

Nick is now 8 years old although this photo was taken a few
years ago. He is shown here in the pool with his big sister. Nick does not
actually have cri du chat syndrome since he has a duplication of part of the
short arm of the fifth chromosome (a partial trisomy of 5p), nevertheless,
he does have a lot in common with children who do have cri du chat syndrome.
Nick is very lively, doesn't say much, loves to clap and has had surgery for
scoliosis. Nick's mother would also like contact with any other parents who
have children with a similar chromosome arrangement.

If you wish to contact any of these parents, e-mail Margarette:
