Plate 10 Black Printing (State 1)

Plate 10 has some characteristic letters which help in identification of this plate:

  • H and T are thick and short
  • I is tall
  • J is square footed
  • M is broad and short
  • N is tall and slender
  • Q has a unique shape (slightly less oval) and tail is more horizontal
  • R are recut Ps with the tail added

  • These letters are in some cases similar to those of Plate 11, but are otherwise unqiue in comparison to the remaining plates.  The
"O" Flaw and the positions of the letters within the letter squares aid in the seperation of the stamps of Plate 10 and 11.
