This module addressed the following course goals:

Apply technology to facilitate the use of effective assessment and evaluation strategies in teaching. You will examine the web-tool Turnitin.com for use with essay assessment, and create a blueprint for a the Selected Response assessment.

With the assistance of technology, accurately measure student achievement of, and progress toward, learning objectives using a variety of formal and informal assessments.

Module 5-1: Using Turnitin.com

Module 5-2: A Table of Specifications (Test Blueprint)

Reflection:
Turnitin.com provided me with a window into formatting documents and proper citations. I felt very threatened by this web based software, and realized that my students must feel much the same way. I feel that, like any tool, one must supplement learning and not use it as a replacement. Mastery in teaching suggests that we find ways in which to make our jobs more efficient, but not at the expense of the human contact.

I believe that Turnitin.com has its place in education. I don't, however, believe that it should be the sole basis for judgment in every single case. I will use this information to educate my students and reinforce copyright laws. I am also reminded that I must be clear in my citations and formatting in order to correctly provide credit to others' work.
