Farfan, Luis - From: Sevilla. Cuba in 1518, and with Cortes to Mexico 
in 1519. Listed as being killed by the Indians. 

Fernandez de Portocarrero, Alonso - From: Medellin (birthplace of 
Cortes). Parents: ? Portocarrero (a military commander) and Dona Maria 
Cespedes. A Captain in Cortes' army. Later an Alcalde in Mexico. 

Fernandez, Bartolome - From: Palos, Huelva. Cuba in 1518, and with 
Cortes to Mexico in 1519.A personal guard of Cortes. Left for Spain 
in 1528 in order to bring back his wife.

Fernandez. Known as a "good old man". He came to Santo Domingo in 1502.

with Pedro de Alvarado. Settled in Oaxaca. 

Fernandez de Cordoba, Cristoval - From: Cordoba. Cuba in 1518, and with
Cortes to Mexico in 1519.

Fernandez de Merida, Juan - From: Merida. Parents: Bartolome Sanchez 
and Elvira Sanchez. Settled in Antequera. Married and had at least 1 
son and daughter.

Fernandez de Navarrete, Pedro - From: Navarre (?). Married dona Ana de 
Rebolledo. Had a son Garcia Navarrete who supported his mother and 
sisters after his fathers death.

Fernandez de Nieto, Diego - From: Almeida (Zamora). Parents: Sebastian 
and Mari Fernandez. Native of the Portuguese frontier. Settled in Mexico
City with a wife and 7 children. A son and Grandson were both named 
Bartolome Gallegos. A coat of arms was awarded to Diego Fernandez 
dated Dec. 12,1539.

Fernandez de Ocampo, Juan - From: Ocampo (Lugo). Settled in Colima. 
Had a son of the same name. Son in laws: Gaspar Romano, Baltasar de 
Alcala and Cristobal de Tene.

Figueroa, Diego de - came to the New World with his father in 1516.
Settled in San Ildefonso, Oaxaca.

Flamenco, Juan de - From: Flanders. Natural death. Son: Pedro Flamenco.

Flandes, Juan de - could be the same as Juan de Flamenco (above). Given
an encomienda in Mx.

Flores, Cristoval - Born in Valencia de Don Juan.

Flores, Francisco - From: Encinasola. Father: Juan Flores. Settled in 
Mexico City. Married dona Francisca de la Cueva. They had 1 son and 4 
daughters. Flores died in the 1540's. Grandson: Francisco Flores 
(married the daughter of a Doctor Paredes). Granddaughter married: 
Sancho Garces.

Floriano, Jeronimo de - died in the conquest (1521).

Franco, Pedro de - settled in Oaxaca. Son: Anton Franco. Son in law: 
Pedro Montano. Grandsons: Pedro and Francisco Montano, and Domingo de 
Castaneda. Granddaughters married don Francisco Colmenero de Andrada 
and Francisco de la Cruz. Pedro de Franco's Grandchildren were the 
Great grandchildren of the Conquistador Lorenzo Genoves. 

Frias, Luis - From: Sevilla. Parents: Juan de Frias and Catalina de 
Cordoba. Cuba in 1518, and with Cortes to Mexico in 1519.

Fuenterrabia, Juanes de - From: Fuenterrabia, Guipuzcoa. To Mexico with
Cortes. Participated in the conquest of Guatamala with Pedro de Alvarado.

Fuentes, Diego de - In Cuba in 1519 and went to Mexico with Narvaez 
before joining Cortes while in Mexico. Settled in Panuco.

Fuentes, Pedro de - killed by Cortes' Conquistadors when Cortes battled 
the Conquistador Narvaez in Cempoallan, 
Yucatan. A battle over Mexico in which 14 or 15 Conquistadors died.

Galan, Juan - From: Carmona, Sevilla. Parents: Antonio Garcia Galan 
and Leonor Garcia. Arrived in the Indies in 1512. In Cuba in 1519 and
went to Mexico with Narvaez before joining Cortes while in Mexico.

Galeote, Alonso - brother of Antonio Galeote (below). Son of Gonzalo 
Galeote (below). On Mexican records 12 years after the conquest.

Galoete, Antonio - From: Huelva. Brother of fellow conqueror Alonso (above).
Galeote. Came to Mexico with Narvaez before joining Cortes 
while in Mexico. Settled in Puebla. Son of Gonzalo Galeote (below).

Galeote Garcia, Alonso - From: Huelva. Parents: Alonso Galeote and 
Isabel Diaz la Cordera. Settled in Puebla with a Spanish wife and 6 
sons and 5 daughters with a natural daughter being a member of the 
household. Gonzalo was Alonso's father and he also had brothers in 
Cortes' army. Died in the 1560's. Sons:	Juan Galeote and Alonso 
Galeote. Son in Law: Juan de Lasarte
Grandsons: 	Alonso Galeote and Diego de Tovar
Granddaughters Married:	Juan de Heredia and Juan Martinez de Argueta
Great Grandsons:	Alonso Galeote and Francisco Rendero
Great Granddaughter Married: Juan Guillen de Liebana Appears to

Galeote, Gonzalo - From: Huelva. Father of fellow conquerors Alonso 
and Antonio Galeote. Gonzalo came to Santo Domingo in 1502. Conquered 
Cuba, Puerto Rico, Jamaica, Cuba and Mexico. He died in 1522 a year 
after the conquest of Mexico. 

Galindo, Juan (Sanchez) - Married Elvira Rodriguez who came to Mx. 
with her brother Diego (from Palos) in 1530.

Gallardo, Pedro - From: Lepe (Huelva). Mariner by trade. Settled in 
Puebla with an Indian wife, a son and a daughter. He died circa 1535 
and left his children in the care of Gonzalo Carrasco a resident of 
Puebla and native of Caceres Spain. 

Gallego, Alvaro - From: Galicia. Settled in Mexico City and married 
Leonor de la Pena. They had no children but Alvaro did have at least 
1 natural daughter.

Gallego, Andres - From: Gallegos. In Cuba in 1519 and went to Mexico 
with Narvaez before joining Cortes while in Mexico.
On the records of Mx. 10 years after the conquest.

Gallego, Bartolome - From: Gallegos. Involved in mining while in Cuba 
in 1518. To Mexico with Cortes. A resident of Guatamala in 1541.

Gallego, Benito - received an encomienda after the conquest. Settled in 
Mx.

Gallego, Cristoval - From: Tuy, Pontevedra. Parents: Alonso Rodriguez 
de Arbeloso and Maria Diaz. Came to the Indies in 1516. To Mexico with
Cortes.

Gallego, Hernando - Sailor from Galicia. Came in with Narvaez. 

Gallego, Juan Cristoval - From: Gallegos. In Puerto Rico in 1510, Cuba 
in 1519 before going to Mexico with Narvaez and joining Cortes
while in Mexico. A resident of Honduras in 1536. 

Gallego Hernandez, Gonzalo - From: Alconchel (Bandajoz). Settled in 
Coatzacualcos. Married and had a family. A son was Gonzalo Hernandez 
and a grandson was Gonzalo Hernandez de Alconchel. 

Gallego, Juan - Settled Antequera, and had a son by the same name. Other
sons: Nicolas, Melchor and Gabriel de Parada. Grandson: Antonio de 
Trejo. Granddaughter married: Pedro de Olivera. 
Great Grandsons: don Juan, Miguel and Luis de Olivera.

Gallego, Lucas - From: Galicia. Believed to have served under Cortes. 
Settled in Mexico City. Married Catalina Rodriguez and had a number of 
children. A son's name was Miguel Arias and a grandson Domingo Gallego.

Gallego, Pedro - captured and sacrificed in Tacuba.

Gallego de Andrade, Juan - Juan Gallego de Andrade was the second 
husband of the daughter of Montezuma from which they had a son together.
Juan Gallego died suddenly in 1530. Daughter: Juana Andrade Moctezuma.
Grandson: don Juan Moctezuma. Great grandson: don Juan Moctezuma.

Francisco settled in Toluca. Wife: Maria Leonor Hernandez. Son: Damian 
Garcia. Son in laws: Francisco de Leon and Constantino Damiel.Grandsons: 
Cristobal de Leon, Juan de Leon and Agustin and Domingo Farfan.

Garrido, Pedro de - From: Monguer. Settled in Colima and married Elvira 
de Arevalo the daughter of the Conquistador Alonso de Arevalo. 
They had a daughter Catalina. Pedro de Garrido died before 1545 and his
daughter was raised a ward of a relative, Bartolome Garrido. 

Garrido, Juan - First free black African to arrive in the new world. 
It is said he was the first to plant wheat. For more on the

Genoves, Alonso - From: Genoa (Italy). Came to Mexico with Cortes. 
Spain had earlier driven the French out of what is modern day Italy 
(Italy as a country didn't exist until about 1750) in order to protect
Sicily which was part of the house of Aragon.

When Cristobal de Olid rebelled against Cortes and fled to Central 
America it was the Captain Gil Gonzalez who ended up capturing him and 
helped sentence him to death. Married Dona Leonor de Alvarado, circa 
1526, niece of Pedro de Alvarado and daughter of Jorge de Alvarado.

Gutierrez de Escalante, Juan - After Cortes' arrival in Mexico he had 
his ships burned and left Juan Escalante in charge of a garrison in 
Vera Cruz. Cortes then marched to the interior of Mexico. At this point 
they were outlaws openly defying the Govenor of Cuba (Diego Velazquez). 
Juan Escalante and 6 others were killed along with some of their Indian 
allies by the Mexica while Cortes was in Tenochtitlan.

in Cortes' army. Listed as a settler in Mexico in 1529. Was an assistant 
to Nuno de Guzman in Nueva Galicia. In 1534 he took his wife who was 
originally from Valencia and his 2 small daughters and followed Pedro 
de Alvarado to Peru. Don Pedro Guzman and his family died of the cold 
crossing the Andes during this journey.

of the viceroy and had many children. Son in laws: don Luis de Velasco 
and don Carlos de Luna y Arellano. Grandsons: don Francisco de Velasco, 
don Antonio de Velasco and don Tristan de Arellano.

he married the youngest daughter of the conquistador Leonel de Cervantes.

Jasso "el mozo". Both were from San Juan del Pie del Puerto Navarre.

Jimenez, Francisco de - From: Herguijuela, Caceres. went to Mexico with 
Narvaez before joining Cortes. Known to be good with firearms. 
In Chiapas in 1524. 

Jimenez, Juan - From: Caceres Settled in Mexico City. Father: 
Juan Jimenez. 

Jimenez, Miguel - From: Herguijuela, Caceres. Came to Mexico with his 
brother the above mentioned Juan Jimenez under the command of Cortes. 
Believed to have been killed by the Indians. 

Jimenez de Rivera, Juan - Married Leonor Gutierrez and had a son and 
daughter. 

Juarez, Gaspar - From: Evora, Portugal. Conquistador of Cuba in 1514 
and came to Mexico with Cortes in 1519.

Juarez, Lorenzo - He was called "El Portugues". Came to Mexico with 
Cortes and settled in Mexico City. Son: Gaspar Juarez.  Grandson: Andres 
Juarez. 

Juarez, Juan - From: Granada or Sevilla. Parents: Diego Juarez and Dona 
Maria de Marcayda. Settled in Santo Domingo with his mother and 3 sisters. 
One of whom ended up married to Cortes (Catalina). Came to Mexico with 
Cortes. Settled in Mexico where he was given lands to administer.

La Mezquita, Diego de - settled in Oaxaca.

La Milla, Francisco de - on Mx. records 15 years after the conquest. 
Settled in Panuco.

La Pena (y Vallejo), Juan de - on Mx. records 22 years after the conquest.

La Torre, Juan de - a second cousin of Cortes. Survived the conquest.

Lagos, Gonzalo de - on Mx. records 11 years after the conquest.

Lara, Juan de - captured and sacrificed.

Lares, Amador de - Royal treasurer in Cuba. His secretary was Andres 
de Duero. Died in the battle known as "Notche Triste" (sad night).

Lares, Pedro de - Believed to be the other Lares that died in the battle 
known as "Notche Triste" (sad night).

Laso, Alonso - From: Cazalla, Sevilla. He and his brother Francisco 
came to the Indies in 1516. Listed as Conquistadors of Mexico but could 
not find evidence to support this. 

Laso, Pedro - Came to Mexico with Cortes.

Ledesma, Alonso de - on Mx. records 5 years after the conquest.

Ledesma, Francisco - From: Ledesma, Salamanca. Came to Mexico with 
Cortes. Was a merchant in Mexico in 1526.

Ledesma, Juan de - There were 3 with this name. One Juan de Ledesma had 
a son in law: Francisco Melgarejo.
Another settled Guatamala where there is record of 10 children. 

Ledesma, Pedro de - on Mx. records a year after the conquest.

Lema, Fernando - From: Suesto, Coruna Spain. Conquistador of Cuba in 
1511. Came to Mexico as a captain in Narvaez' army. Settled 
in Mexico where he was given lands to administer. Appears to be the 
same Conquistador as Fernando Lerma below.

Leon, Alonso de - Married an Indian woman.

Leon, Alvaro de - From: Dimynes, Santander. Came to Mexico with Narvaez'.
6 children.

Leon, Diego de - Came to Mexico with Narvaez'. 

Lerma, Fernando de - As the Conquistadors were retreating from 
Tenochtitlan (Mexico City) Cortes went back to try and save 
his men from drowning in the waters that surround the city. The Mexica 
recognizing Cortes made an attempt to pull him into their canoes. It 
was Cristoval de Olea who threw himself on the attackers and 
paid with his life falling at Cortes' side. Lerma was said to have 
joined Olea but he survived. He ended up losing the use of his hand 
as a result. An allied Tlascalan chief fought over the 
wounded body of Cortes killing three Mexica, allowing enough time for 
Cortes' men to come to his defense. 

Lerma, Lepe de - considered fearless. After being reprimanded by Cortes
he deserted and went to live with the Indians. No record of him thereafter.

Lezama, Fernando de - From: Lezama, Vizcaya. Came to Mexico with Cortes.

Limpias de Carvajal, Juan - Born in Seville. Parents: Hernando de Carvajal 
and Lucia de Limpias. Capt. of a boat in the battle to re-take 
Tenochtitlan. Before the battle the Mexica had put stakes in 
the water to impale the boats of the conquistadors. Juan fought so 
valiantly he inspired his men to break free of the stakes saving their 
boat and their lives. Settled in Mexico City. Married with several 
children. Son: Juan de Limpias. Son in laws: Miguel Hernandez, Alonso 
de Estrada, Pedro de Salinas and Esteban de Carvajal.

Lizana, Juan de - of Toledo. Parents: Jimeno de Burgos and Catalina Lizana.
Married Catalina de Garay. 4 children.

Llerena, Garcia de - From: Burgos. Came to Mexico with Cortes. On 
Mexican records until 1536. Married Leonor de Pineda, 5 children.

Loa, Guillen de - a horseman; was sent to check on Pedro de Alvarado 
after "Noche Triste" a battle in which 600 conquistadors and several 
thousand of their indian allies died. Settled in Mexico City. Married
Isabel de Alvarado, the niece of the Conquistador Pedro de Alvarado 
and had 4 sons and a daughter. Died in 1560 of a cane thrust while 
playing with cane spears. Must have been over 60 at the time. 
Son: Tristan de Loa, Julian de la Loa, and Gomez de Alvarado. Daughter: 
Julia de la Loa Grandsons: don Juan and don Alonso de Alvarado. 
Granddaughter married: Francisco de Arevalo. Great granddaughter 
married: Nicolas de Ayala.

Lobato, Cristobal - From: Huelva. Came to Mexico with Narvaez.

Lobos de Sotomayor, Ruy - given an encomienda after the conquest.

Lopez, Alonso - From: Cordoba. Parents: Gonzalo Lopez and 
Mari Gutierrez. Settled in Colima. Married with one son and 5 daughters. 
The one son and 2 daughters were natural children.

Lopez, Alvaro - A carpenter he helped fashion a cross that was put on 
top of a great Mayan temple in which Cortes would preach in front of. 
Settled in Mexico City.

Lopez, Andres - From: Villanueva in the valley of Tobalina, Burgos. 
Parents: Andres Lopez de Cespedes and Marigomez de Salazar.  Settled 
in Mexico City. Married: Catalina Lopez. Andres and his wife had 2 
sons and a daughter. Participated in the pacification of the Chichimecas.

Lopez, Antonio - Came to Mexico with Narvaez.

Lopez, Bartolome - There were 2 with this name. One was Bartolome Lopez 
de Sanlucar. Parents: Pedro Lopez and Isabel Gutierrez. Bartolome was an 
archer in Cortes' army. Settled in Colima with his wife.

Lopez, Francisco - Married a "woman of the land". Had many children. 
Son: Geronimo Lopez. Daughter married: Diego Hernandez.

Lopez, Jeronimo - Parents: Anton Lopez de Viar and Elvira Hernandez de

and 4 sons. Received a coat of arms in 1530. Sons: Jeronimo Lopez and 
Pero Lopez de Rivera. Grandsons: don Jeronimo Lopez de Peralta, Diego 
de Villapadierna and Jeronimo Lopez de Mendoza. Granddaughter married: 
don Fernando de Rivadeneira. 

Lopez, Juan - There were 3 with this name. One was Juan Lopez de Jimena. 
His brother was Gonzalo. They both joined Cortes in 1519. After the 
conquest he became Mayor of Veracruz. Juan married Francisca de Nava 
and had 3 sons and 4 daughters. At least some of his children took the 
de Nava name. Son: Antonio de Nava. Grandsons: Diego de Nava, Juan, 
Andres, Cristobal and Martin de Ontiveros. Granddaughters married: Juan 
de Ibarra, and Pedro Nunez de Cordova. 

Lopez, Martin - There were two with this name. One was from Seville. 
Parents: Cristobal Diaz de Narices and Estefania Rodriguez. He helped 
build the ships needed by Cortes to patrol the lake around Mexico City. 
Settled in Mexico City. Martin married Ines Ramirez of Seville who died 
in 1529. He then married Juana Hernandez of Seville. He received 3 coats 
of arms. Grandsons: Martin, don Geronimo Lopez Osorio, Luis Perez del 
Castillo, Juan Perez del Castillo, Pedro Lopez del Castillo, Martin 
Lopez Gutierrez, Gonzalo Hernandez de Figueroa and Juan de Figueroa. 
Granddaughter married: Fernando Calderon.

Santo Domingo in 1494, Puerto Rico in 1512, Captain of the Armada. Came 
to Mexico with Cortes.

Lozano, Pedro - From: Caceres Settled in Mexico City and 
married Maria Pereles. They had at least 2 sons. Grandsons: Pedro and 
Martin (settled in the Phillippines) Lozano.

Lucas (Montanchez), Alfonso (Alonso) - married twice. His second wife and
8 children died in a ship, in the Gulf. on a trip to Spain. A daughter 
Violante survived to marry Pero Ortiz de Zuniga.

Lugo, Francisco - Born in Medina del Campo. Related to the conquistador 
Bernal Diaz del Castillo.
