"Falling in love with someone isn't always going to be easy... Anger... tears... laughter..
It's when you want to be together despite it all.
That's when you truly love another. I'm sure of it."

While Lily and Holden were on a camping trip, Lily found a poetry book in the trucks glove box.  In it there was a page he had bookmarked, he told her that while he was away from her he would read this poem; as it reminded him of them.

Romance by: Robert Lewis Stevenson
"I will make you brooches and toys for your delight Of bird-song at morning and star-shine at night. I will make a palace fit for you and me Of green days in forests and blue days at sea. I will make my kitchen, and you shall keep your room, Where white flows the river and bright blows the broom, And you shall wash your linen and keep your body white In rainfall at morning and dewfall at night. And this shall be for music when no one else is near, The fine song for singing, the rare song to hear! That only I remember, that only you admire, Of the broad road that stretches and the roadside fire."

Holden and Lily -- A Love Story

Holden and Lily were star-crossed lovers from the beginning.  Lily Walsh first met Holden Synder in the stables of her mother's home.  At the time of their meeting, Lily was dating Dusty Donovan, yet the attraction between her and Holden was instant and very intense.  When Lily began to date Holden, her mother vehemently disapproved.

Lily continued to date Holden until she found out that Holden had lied to her about her family history.  When Lily found out she was adopted she called off her engagement to Holden and went running back to Dusty.  She later lost her virginity to Dusty.  Devastated and lonely, Holden turned to Emily Stewart for comfort.  He impulsively married her and found out she was pregnant -- but the child was not his.  They divorced and Holden left town.

In the meantime, Lily had married Derek Mason.  He married Lily for her money but died trying to save her life.  Lily left town after his death.  Upon her return, she became involved with Holden's brother, Caleb.  Holden soon returned to Oakdale married to Angel, Caleb's ex.  He soon realized that he belonged with Lily and Angel granted him a divorce, but not before Holden made love to Julie Wendall (Caleb's current girlfriend) in a drunken stupor.

Holden and Lily finally married in 1991.  Lily soon became pregnant but was devastated when she miscarried.  She sunk into a deep depression.  Soon afterwards, Holden found out he had conceived a child during his one-night-stand with Julie.  He decided to go to New York to confront her.  Upon his arrival, he suffered a severe head injury and lost his memory.  He could not remember Lily and asked her for a divorce.  Lily fled to Europe.

While in Europe, Lily met and married Damian Grimaldi.  The decided to move back to Oakdale to be closer to her family.  By this time Holden had regained his memory and wanted Lily back.  Despite her strong attraction to Holden she decided to stay married to Damian.

Lily began having problems with Damian's mother, Orlena.  Orlena was an evil woman who did not believe Lily was worthy of her son.  Damian was also very jealous of Holden and Lily became frightened of his explosive temper.  Lily turned to Holden for comfort and they made love in the church tower.  However, Lily ended up going back to Damian and became pregnant with his child.  Damian was involved in a plane crash and presumed dead.  Lily became involved with Holden.  When Lily learned Damian had not died, she chose to remain with Holden, her one true love.  While pregnant with Holden's baby, she was kidnapped by David Stenbeck.  She would later find out that David had switched babies and the child her and Holden were raising was not their child.  They found out that the child they were raising belonged to Andy and Denise and gave her up when they got their own child back.  Seemingly, Lily and Holden were finally at peace.

Holden soon became immersed in his work as manager at WOAK and was beginning to neglect his marriage.  Katie, who was obsessed with him, was determined to make him hers.  She was taking much of his attention away from Lily.  Lily soon met Simon, who began renovating her house.  Soon Lily learned that there was more to Simon's story and found out there was a diamond that her great-grandfather had given her great-grandmother that Simon wanted to get his hands on.  Lily then met Rose, who looks exactly like her, and Rose had the diamond in her possession.  Lily, determined to keep Simon away from the diamond, switched places with Rose and Rose went off to Oakdale.  Lily was knocked unconscious and ended up on a train with Simon.  Simon's demented sister, Celia, ended up making them jump off a plane.  They ended up stranded on an island for months and grew very close.  Lily soon found out that no one knew she was missing because Rose was still impersonating her and that her own husband didn't even know the difference.  Finding comfort in each other, Lily and Simon started to make love -- just at the time Holden walked in to rescue them.

Lily had a hard time sorting out her feelings when she returned to Oakdale.  Holden had been seeing Rose, who was actually Lily's twin sister.  Lily was still harboring many feelings of resentment towards Holden.  She decided she was in love with Simon and asked Holden to move out.  Simon then married Katie so he could stay in the country to be near Lily.  When Katie lied about a pregnancy, it was the last straw for Lily.  She couldn't decide between Holden and Simon so she decided to go away for a while to get herself together.  Upon her return, she decided she wanted to try to make her marriage work, and Holden agreed.  Unfortunately, the happy reunion was short-lived.  Damian returned to Oakdale wanting to take Luke to Malta because he said Luke's life was in danger.  When Holden and Lily refused, Damian kidnapped Luke.  Damian put Luke on a launch to go out to his yacht and Holden jumped on, too.  The launch exploded, leaving Holden, Luke, and Damian for dead.

Lily soon found out, with the help of Simon, that Holden and Luke are very much alive and being held in Malta.  Lily is doing everything in her power to get her family back safely.  She has pledged to spend the rest of her life making Holden happy.

Through thick and thin, Holden and Lily have stayed together.  No matter what happens they always seem to find their way back to each other.  They are a true "supercouple".
