Marilyn Sudor Character Plotline:

top of page
Episode 1 Episode 2 Episode 3 Episode 4
Marilyn finishes first in the Sheryl Holt web site poll of which teacher male students most want to sleep with. --No major plotlines for Marilyn in Episode 3.-- Marilyn spends most of her time in this episode trying to organize a charity function at the school.  Most of the acts are students spoofing the actions of the staff.  What really makes the program is when Guber comes on stage at the end to accept the charity check and Marilyn comes out singing "These Eyes" in a sexy voice and dress.  She totally embarrasses Guber and when Marla joins in he is beside himself.
Episode 5 Episode 6 Episode 7 Episode 8
Guber asks Marilyn for her quarterly attendance records. This is not a normal request and she feels it is in retribution for her song at the charity event in the last episode.  She doesn't feel the request is warranted.  She tells him that the song was not meant to be mean and Guber says he was not offended, but it's easy to tell he's angry. In a time of great distress over the death of a friend, Harper asks Marilyn on a date.  She doesn't know what to say, but later tells him it wouldn't work out.  She knows that he is suffering and tells him that he needs to grieve.
Episode 9 Episode 10 Episode 11 Episode 12
--No major plotlines for Marilyn in Episode 9-- Marilyn has a student, Jody, in her class who writes a rather realistic story about a father who is sexually abusing his daughter.  Marilyn knows that Jody has never been a wonderful writer and Marilyn wonders if the story doesn't have some truth to it.  She takes it to Mr. Lick to read and he agrees that it may be true.  When questioned by Marilyn Jody denies it, but after further questioning by Mr. Lick she does agree to its validity.  The parents are called in and are outraged at the accusations.  Marilyn gets proof when Jody hands her a video tape of one of the incidents.  The father is arrested and Marilyn becomes a refuge for Jody. Marilyn has a student in her choir who is a gang member.  He sings great, but has major problems Harry is trying to help him work out.

Our Thoughts on Marilyn:
Tim's thoughts:

Yes, she won the student poll at Winslow High of "Which teacher male students want to sleep with the most".  Yes she is very attractive.  But I believe she is more than just eye candy for the audience.  She loves teaching and wants to make a difference in the lives of her students.  Will she and Principal Harper ever go out?  I doubt it.  It's one of those things that will keep audiences wondering and coming back for more.

I like her character, but I'd be lying if I didn't admit that she was at least appealing to watch.

addendum--1/9/01--Please give her more air time!  She's a great actress!

Jen's Thoughts:

Well, I won't dwell much on Tim's use of the phrases 'eye candy,' and 'appealing to watch.' (In case you've forgotten, this website is a husband-wife production.)

I think Marilyn is a wonderful teacher.  She's sensitive and thoughtful, but also has no problem calling students out on the carpet when they deserve it.  I think it's too bad that she doesn't feel comfortable dating her boss, because I think that a relationship between her and Steven could have had real potential.
