It's a strange sort of serendipity that I first heard of this Anime while doing research on the subject of 'Gender Inequality in Anime' for a paper in my Social Anthropology elective. While I doubt this was a topic they meant to seriously address, the setting sure did make for some interesting observations ^_^ But I digress: Vandread is a space/mecha action series with a very uniques setting. The Battle of the Sexes has been taken to the extreme and the end result is that each gender has their own planet, own armies, and own culture which demonizes the opposite sex. The men seem ready to end this long wa though, with the help of their new (or is that old?) prize battleship. But things, as usual, go awry, and a group of men and women just might be forced to cooperate to battle a bigger threat.
Vandread is an action Anime at its heart, but it executes this action with
a lot of heart and polish. Add to this some very likeable characters, good
writing, and a lot of humor and you have one entertaining series. And one
that is very condusive to fanfics... ^_^
