Tomato Fish Curry
Ingredients:
1. Fish (pomfret/surmai/black pomfret) : 500 grams(cut into 2 cm. thick
slices)
2. Tomato : 250 grams(finely chopped)
3. Ginger : 20 grams(finely
chopped)
4. Garlic : 5 flakes(finely chopped)
5. Green chillies : 5(finely
chopped)
6. Chilli powder : 1 tablespoon
7. Coriander powder : 11/2
tablespoon
8. Turmeric powder : 1/4 teaspoon
9. Fenugreek seeds : 1/4
teaspoon
10. Peppercorns : 10
11.Cooking oil : 2 tablespoons
12. Curry
leaves : 2 strands
13. Coriander leaves(optional) : 1 bunch (finely
chopped)
14. Salt : to taste
Method of Preparation:
Clean, cut and wash the fish pieces. Roast the
fenugreek seeds and peppercorns till they start to crackle and powder. In a
cooking pan, heat the oil and saute the onions till it starts turning golden.
Add the finely chopped ginger, garlic and green chillies and saute for 2 minutes
on medium flame. Add the coriander powder and saute for another minute. Add the
chilli powder and turmeric powder and saute for 1/2 minute. Add the tomato
pieces and saute till the tomato becomes tender. Add 3 cups of water, salt to
taste, curry leaves and the fish pieces and bring to a boil. Reduce the flame to
medium and cook for 10 minutes or till the fish is cooked and the gravy becomes
semi-thick. Remove from fire, garnish with coriander leaves and serve.
