Fish Curry


Ingredients:

1. Fish(preferably black pomfret or surmai) cut into 1" slices: 500 grams
2. Coconut oil/cooking oil : 1 tablespoon
3. Chilli powder : 1 tablespoon
4. Turmeric powder : 1/4 teaspoon
5. Coriander powder : 2 tablespoon
6. Fenugreek seeds : 1/2 teaspoon
7. Peppercorns : 10
8. Salt : to taste
9. Fish tamarind(Kudampuli) - 4-5 pieces/Pulp of1 lemon size tamarind(Imli)
10. Coconut : 1/2
11. Curry leaves : 2 strands
12. Onion : 1 small


Method of Preparation:

Clean and wash the fish pieces. Roast the fenugreek seeds and pepper corns till it starts to crackle and powder. Soak the fish tamarind pieces in water for 5 minutes, wash thoroughly and keep aside. Finely chop the onion. Grate the coconut, blend it in a mixie with one cup of water, pour through a sieve and take out the coconut milk and keep aside. Heat oil in a pan. Add the finely chopped onion and saute till golden brown. Reduce the flame,add coriander powder and saute for 1 minute. Add chilli powder and turmeric powder and saute for 1/2 a minute. Add 3 cups of water,salt, fenugreek-pepper powder, curry leaves and the fish tamarind pieces/tamarind pulp and the fish pieces and bring to a boil. Reduce the flame and cook till the curry becomes thick. Add the coconut milk and bring to a slow boil. Remove from fire and serve.
