My Collection

Besides the many photographs I have taken over the years, I have collected a number of nice pieces of sheela-na-gig art. What follows is a list of the items pictured above. See my Links page for information on several of the suppliers.

Plaque-type items--clockwise from upper right: Ballylarkin--plaster cast by Starr Goode; Austerfield--plaster cast by JBL Statues; Cavan-- plaster cast purchased at Blarney Woolen Mills; Kilpeck--brass pendant from JBL Statues; Cavan--plaster pin, purchased from an artist in Enniskillen; Kilpeck--plaster cast purchased at Blarney Woolen Mills.

Statues--L-R, Kilpeck--mug purchased at Irish Arts Festival, Washington DC; Clonmel--statue by JBL Statues; White Island (Lough Erne)--statue purchased from an artist in Enniskillen; Kilpeck--statue was a gift from Auntie Pat and Uncle Ron; Tall wooden sheela--sculpted by Michael Quirke; Cavan--statue purchased from an artist in Enniskillen; small wooden sheela --carved by James Garvin; Sier Kieran--statue from JBL Statues.

The pendant (enlarged to show detail) is a lovely pewter example of a stylized sheela purchased from an artist at the Irish Festival in Washington DC.

The tapestry is my own, made during a class on weaving at Oideas Gael in Donegal. It is based on the Moate sheela-na-gig.
