Luis Gianneo

Complete works for piano in 3 CDs

Luis Gianneo was one of the leading composers of his generation. Profoundly Argentinian, he was one of the first and most succesful creators to strive for a national music with contemporary significance. Most of his mature musical output shows traces of folk elements, woven into a neo-classical musical language, sometimes angular, other times lyrical, but always full of life and momentum. As a composer, he became one of the most important predescesors of Alberto Ginastera, who in many occasions expressed his admiration for him, and whose music shows interesting parallelisms with the former composer.

"Gianneo's attractive piano music is well-served by the present performers and is given a warm, natural piano sound." -Hubert CULOT Classical Music Web.

"Gianneo's works reflected many of the influences of the twentieth century and these intelligent performances should bring him to the wider audience he deserves." -New Classics online

"Dora De Marinis copes marvelously with the demands of the Two Etudes, and Elena Dabul is compellingly evocative in En el Alt. The recordings are decent, and anyone interested in this repertoire need not hesitate." - Tim Parry, Gramophone

"This recording contains music well worth exploring. The music is compelling and rendered with fire." - American Record Guide

Alberto Ginastera
Concerti for Piano No. 1 and No. 2
Dora De Marinis, piano.
Slovak Radio Symphony Orchestra, Julio Malaval.

A landmark recording, this is the first CD to date containing both Piano Concerti by Ginastera. Dramatic rhythmic energy, magical atmospheres, and fascinating lyricism combined in a magnificent tour de force where the orchestra and the soloist shine with splendor. These two piano concerti are milestones in the history of the modern piano concerto.

"De Marinis is partnered hand in glove by Julio Malaval ... for whom the Slovak Radio Symphony Orchestra plays head-and-shoulders above the average heard on a lot of their 140+ Naxos and Marco Polo discs ... [Ms. De Marinis] is comparably incisive as well as considerably more poetic [than Oscar Tarrago in his recording of the first concerto.]" ROGER DETTMER. Classical CD Review

Juan José Castro

Complete works for piano
in 2 CDs

Juan José Castro has earned widespread recognition as one of the most important Argentine composers of the 20th century. Since his twenties he championed the modern music cause both as a conductor, performing South American premieres of such works as Le Sacre du Printemps, and as a composer, experimenting with dissonant techniques and neoclassicism. Castro's musical language is synthesis of three different musical trends: the Spanish, with modal Moorish colors and vital rhythms; the French, with both "Franckian" textures and the biting dissonances of Les Six; and the Argentine, with tango rhythms and cadences.
