Colgate Conference 1998


The second meeting of the Joseph Conrad Society of America (JCS-US) outside the aegis of the Modern Language Association of America (MLA) was held at Colgate University, Hamilton, NY August 6th thru 9th, 1998. The first such international meeting outside the MLA was held at Kent State University, Kent, Oh., 6th thru 9th April, 1995. An invitation was extended by Prof. Neil R. Joy of the Conrad Center at Colgate to all Conradists to attend and/or submit papers, which should have a reading time of no more than 20 minutes. The conference covered all aspects of Conrad's life and work. One of the special treats available was a look at Mrs. F. N. Doubleday's diary kept during Conrad's visit to the United States.
