abmd (The Autism Biomedical Discussion group has been created for the discussion of research and biomedical interventions   as they apply to the investigation and treatment of autistic spectrum disorders. Topics of discussion include immunology, endocrinology, gastrointestinal issues, allergies, metabolic and mitochondrial issues, exposure to neurotoxins, vaccine injury, dietary and nutritional protocols, medications, and other areas pertinent to diagnostics and treatment protocols for individuals with autism. Please be advised that group discussions can involve technical, scientific and/or medical terminology, but a background in the sciences is not required for participation. Parents, physicians and researchers are encouraged to participate. This list is NOT for discussion of behavioral or educational interventions, or for the discussion of occupational and speech therapies. It is requested that you please refrain from these topics on this list. )

AUFTHEWALL (AUFTHEWALL is an open, uncensored forum for the discussion of all topics related to autism, including the daily stresses of parenting children with ASD.   The only subject banned is abortion.   AUFTHEWALL contains a lot of humor and some of it may (or may not) be offensive to some, so be forewarned. This list was created by a large group of longtime members of the St. Johns Autism List who wanted to recreate that list's former all-inclusive atmosphere.   While it should be the goal of every listmember to be respectful of the other listmembers, venting is allowed, expected, and will not be censored unless it gets out of control.)

autismnet (Attention: Autismnet messages are restricted to members only. You are welcome to join Autismnet anytime to read and post messages.   We have a lot of autism-related posts inside and there is also a search capability.   Join us and thanks. Autismnet is the forum for the web site Autism Network Resources for Physicians.   This is an information board for physicians, researchers, doctors, scientists, specialists and those who have first-hand knowledge of their kids - the parents.   This board discusses research on autism as it relates to genetics, allergy & immunology, neurology, gastroenterology, ophthalmology, dermatology, physical therapy, otolaryngology, orthopedics, podiatry, microbiology, chemistry, toxicology, endocrinology, psychiatry, psychology, etc.   Discussions will be limited to research on causes and treatment of autism, pervasive developmental disorders, and disorders such as ADD, ADHD, OCD, CFS, CFIDS, NDD, etc. as they relate to autism.   Discussions will also include research on the different types of autism such as the Type I autism or classic autism (includes congenital autism and Kanner's syndrome); Type II autism or co-morbid autism (autism that is related to known neurologic and medical disorders such as tuberous sclerosis, phenylketonuria, congenital rubella, Down's syndrome, etc.); and Type III autism or NIDS = neuro-immune dysfunction syndrome (which also includes acquired autism, regressive autism, allergy-induced autism, autistic enterocolitis, autoimmune or dysimmune encephalopathy, and autistic syndrome). autism-test-treat (This list is for subscribers to list what tests their autistic child has had (with results out of norm ) and what treatments ( including secretin and others ) they had good results with . Its purpose is to identify the differant   circumstances in autistic children and what would be the best treatment based on the out of norm results from testing . Boardmaker ( Boardmaker is a software program that uses clip art of picture communication symbols which are used in creating printed communication boards, device overslays, worksheets, and schedules. Mayer Johnson has just come out with a new version, and it has much more diversity than previous version. Meta-mito-autism (A subgroup of children diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder (ASD) present with a complex mixture of neuro-develomental and health issues.   These children are often atypically autistic; they have significant GI, immune, endocrine or autonomic dysfunction.   Many have experienced at least one significant regression.   Parents who proactively seek better diagnosis and treatment plans for these complex kids are welcome to join this list.   We also invite any clinicians with experience in metabolic and/or mitochondrial diseases and willing to work with parents in understanding the biochemical basis of these ASD subsets)

parenting_autism (Many internet lists can be found talking about autism - causes, cures, treatments, therapies, semantics, and terminologies...parenting_autism is an alternative to those.
On the parenting_autism list, the focus is on just that - the day-to-day experience of being a parent of an autistic child. Here, we take off our advocate faces, and allow ourselves and each other to talk about our own lives and feelings.
We talk about the little ups and downs that make up our lives. The joy of hearing your child say 'mommy' or 'daddy' for the first time; the miracle that is a hug or kiss. The hurt of being continually pushed away; the frustration of trying to toilet-train an autstic child. The joy of sending your child to school; the frustration of *dealing with* the school. We trade ideas on discipline, taming tantrums, and behaviours.
Above all, we are honest about how we feel. If someone is having a horrible, 'I wish this wasn't my life' moment, they can safely post this to the list -- and receive nothing but empathy and understanding.)

sid (A support and information list for parents of children with Sensory Integration Dysfunction and/or related disorders, and for professionals who work with these children. toolsforlearning ( This e-group is intended primarily for licensed providers of the Fast ForWord family of programs developed by Scientific Learning Corporation. It is for discussion of issues around administration of these programs, both privately and in public schools. This group operates independently of Scientific Learning Corporation, but individuals affiliated with the company may choose to participate. Parents or professionals who are considering Fast ForWord for their children or clients are welcome but are encouraged to first gain information from the Scientific Learning web site, www.scilearn.com. While Fast ForWord is the primary focus of the group, we are open to discussion of other innovative techniques for assessment and remediation of language and learning problems.)

VerbalBehavior (The focus of this list is Applied Verbal Behavior (AVB), a specialty within the field of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA).   AVB is based upon B.F. Skinner's 1957 analysis of verbal behavior, which looks at the functions of the different verbal operants (units of language). AVB addresses difficulties in the development of communication seen in most individuals with autism and other related disabilities, in part by emphasizing functional language and tying it to motivational variables.   Applied Verbal Behavior has yielded dramatic outcomes for many students and has recently been popularized through the successes of certain professionals, notably Drs. Sundberg, Partington, Carbone, McGreevy, Michael, et al.
