1980 Toyota Corolla SR5
owned by the webmaster from 1987 to 1993

<--PREVIOUS--NEXT-->
This was my second car, and my first five speed.  It rolled over 100,000 miles the day after I bought it, and I drove it from 1987 to 1993, adding an extra 45,000 miles.  Unlike the more common 1980 model Corollas, this one had a different type of roofline and hatch that made it a lot less boxy.  Despite the miles, this car carried me reliably through my college years with very few problems other than a fan clutch, a starter, and a hole in the gas tank.  No major engine or clutch problems, either.  The only accident I ever had in this car happened when I wasn't even in it.... a drunk driver parked on it... er, next to it, I mean.  The drunk raked his F-150 down the entire driver's side while attempting to park next to me at a video store.  The scrape, which of course did no damage to his truck, busted the left tail light assembly, removed all the trim behind the wheel well, peeled the back fender like a grape, removed the trim from the driver's side door, caved the door in slightly, then rumpled the front fender a little bit.  I was able to get it repaired, and these photos were taken after the body work.  By 1993, the Toyota, despite being mechanically sound, was starting to feel it's age.  The Corolla was traded in on my 1992 Ford Probe, featured elsewhere in these pages.
