At The Crossroads

When did life become so precious? When did something trivial like a walk on the beach come to mean so much? Truthfully, I can go on and on about how it naturally came to be so, but I can't. When did I start to treassure the sunsets and the rise of sun…the moment doctor McAllister told me of my cancer and my last year to fulfill my goals and dreams.

My one year to live.

(Six months back)

“Miss Price, when did you begin your affair with Mr. James Paul?” Valerie Stone, district attorney for the LA Department questioned. Dressed in a sleek black suit, she looked every bit the brilliant cold lawyer she is.  As of that moment, she was staring at the timid-looking woman seated on the witness stand with sharp narrow eyes, calculating the hundred and one ways she could crucify the previously wild erotic-dancer-come-`innocent' secretary.

“I, I never would have Mrs. Paul. You know I'd never! It was just one night…I never…” The woman stumbled, pleading with her Boss's wife at the bench.

“Answer the question Miss Price. And try to keep it direct.” She tipped her nose upward, staring down at the near hysterical lady, disgust etched into her features.

An office slut.

It was rather common in uptown LA was it not? Every boss who had a working limbido kept one around. Breaking her train of thought as she realized she was still cross-examining the witness she focused on what Miss Price was saying.

“So you are telling me that it happened three years ago and never since? That every night after work, you would leave separately unlike that one night when you stayed on for some overtime? Really? Why just one night? You are telling the court it was just one night. Right? Might I remind you, Miss Price, that withholding information from the court is against the law?” This time, all Miss Catherine Price could do was shake her head tearfully.

Valerie shook her own head at her obvious disgust at the woman, “No further questions. I already have my answer.”
