The arrival of the French The march through Leitrim Tour de Humbert Trail

“Tour de Humbert Trail”

Tour de Humbert Trail

There are times when the long way 'round is the best way 'round and this is certainly one of them. Ducking and weaving, the trail faithfully follows the meandering path of the marching army. Abruptly swinging of the expected course, General Humbert tried to outwit the enemy with cunning twists and turns using expert local knowledge. The result is a route providing a fasinating series of glimpses into hidden nooks and quiet by-ways of Ireland unseen by the ordinary tourist.

Along the way, sites of historical interest are clearly indicated by explanatory panels. The trail itself is clearly marked with a series of finger signposts.

The picture below shows an example of these signposts. These signposts mark the trail through Fenagh Village, you can just see the 'Old Abbey' in the background of the photo.
