Unique to the North American continent, the Nuwisha bred with coyotes and called the Pure Lands home long before Garou set foot and paw on the continent. Small and agile tricksters, they pranked their way through life apparently unable to take anything seriously, which is ultimately what led to their downfall.

The Nuwisha were never warriors, they lacked the Gift of Rage and it was rumored that Luna turned her face from them in anger at some great wrong the Nuwisha were responsible for, a long time ago - making the entire Breed Ragabash in nature and role - and therefore not entirely trustworthy. Shortly after the Garou arrived in North America, the Nuwisha, ever rare, went into hiding. With the persecution of their coyote kinfolk, it was thought they had become extinct. However, the scent and tracks of the Nuwisha crop up occasionally on Umbral paths, and in national parks, indicating that there are a few still hanging on to life. Despite continued and increased hunting, the coyote species is booming in many places and spreading across America fast. Garou interpret this as more indication of the Nuwisha at work. While they would dearly love to learn the secret of how to protect their animal kinfolk from humans off the Nuwisha, the Garou have great difficulty in locating them. Nuwisha are notoriously skittish of wolves, and Garou in particular. However, it is rumored that many Uktena and Bone Gnawers have coyote - and maybe even Coyote - blood running through their veins, and might just be the Nation's best chance of finding the elusive Shapeshifters, although getting many of the Garou Tribes to acknowledge the Bone Gnawers might be useful for anything will probably prove to be a quest in and of itself.
