USCGC Katmai Bay (WTGB-101)

The CGC Katmai Bay was commissioned in 1979 as the first of a new class of ocean tugs. There are 9 ships in this class, with the 10th (Curtis Bay) being cancelled. These ships also perform AtoN work and may be mated with a work barge. These cutters were designed to replace the 110' WYTM class tugs and can break up to 20 feet of ice. The Katmai Bay is 140' long, has a crew of 17, and a top speed of 14.7 knots. Home port is Sault St. Marie. The patch shows the cutter over a map and the saying refers to this ship being the first of its class.
