Medical Support
Medical support was located in a four-hooch complex behind the base headquarters. There were four or five doctors assigned to Phan Rang during my tour. The medical complex consisted of a hooch that served as a billet for the doctors, a hooch that was a surgical, X-ray and laboratory unit, a hooch that was a pharmacy and an infirmary for hospitalized personnel, and the last hooch provided medical offices and an examination/dental treatment area for outpatient care. The medical support staff provided treatment for all kinds of ailments, i.e., from sunburn and rashes, gastro-intestinal and upper respiratory, social communicable diseases, and fractured bones and lacerations to name a few.
