The Houston Chronicle October 11, 1992, Sunday, 2 STAR Edition Sinead O'Connor's boldness earns praise JOHN O'NEILL Singer Sinead O'Connor should be congratulated for her bold expression of her most excellent and accurate perception of the truth on ""Saturday Night Live. '' (O'Connor tore up a picture of Pope John Paul II after performing on the show Oct. 3.) The last words of the song she sang were: ""We have confidence in the victory of good over evil. '' At the conclusion of the song, she boldly said, ""fight the real enemy,'' referring of course, to the pope. It's too bad that there are so many who were so quick to criticize her. It seems extremely unlikely that any healthy person who has read an accurate account of the Crusades, the beginning of the Roman Catholic Church or of Christianity's effect on humanity, would be able to do anything short of praise O'Connor for her boldness. I think that Sinead did us all a favor.
