Firecracker Special Goes off Without a Hitch

Butler Motor Speedway celebrated Independence Day with the first annual “Firecracker Special”. The weekend got started on Friday, with a full show for the Pell’s Tire Service Pell’s Tire Service Sprint Cars and Pure Stocks, qualifying for the Lane Automotive Late Models, Charter Communications Street Stocks, and IMCA Modifieds.

On Friday, July 4th, the Modifieds took the track for their feature event first. As the race was beginning, there was thunder in the background, and as the half way point was reached, there was a bolt of lightning in turn 4, and the clouds opened up and the race was red flagged for almost an hour for a rain delay. When the race was restarted, it was Todd Sherman in the lead, who eventually took the win. He was followed by Tim Dalman, Les Hoch, Justin Colter, and Bruce Baughman.

The Lane Automotive Late Models were up next for their 25 lap feature event. Terry Stroufe took the feature win, followed by Bryan Koebbe, Tim Wilber, George Lindsey, and Ryan Gorey.

The Pell’s Tire Service Sprint Cars came onto the track for their 25 lap feature event next. Doug Zimmerman took his first feature win of the season, followed by points leader Ken Mackey, Dan Hall, Chuck Wilson, and Mike Schumaker.

The Charter Communications Street Stocks came onto the track for their 20 lap feature event next. It was an action packed race, with Randy Nichols taking the victory for the first time this season. He was followed by points leader Eric Wilson, Mark George, Camron Speith, and Jeff Wadsworth.

The Pure Stock were the last feature event on the night. Tod Thoms took the victory, followed by Ed Burns, Joe Gill, Rick McCafferty, and Doug Patrick rounded out the top five.

On Saturday, the 5th, there was a full show for the S.O.D. and N.R.A. 360 sprints, Pure Stocks, and Feature events for the Modifieds, Lane Automotive Late Models, and Charter Communications Street Stocks.

The Modifieds took the track for their feature event first. Todd Sherman took the victory for the second time in a row. He was followed by Bruce Baughman, Ray Wiggers, Carl Ries, and Tim Dalman.

The Lane Automotive Late Models took to the track next for their feature event. Roger Wing took his first victory of the season. He was followed by the 56 of Randy Archer, Terry Stroufe, Bryan Koebbe, and Tim Wilber. The S.O.D. and N.R.A. 360 sprints took the track for their feature event next. Tim Allison Swept the S.O.D. 3-day weekend by taking both features at Hartford and taking the victory at Butler on Saturday. He was followed by J.R. Stewart, Dustin Daggett, Mike Brecht, and Steve Leiber.

The Charter Communications Street Stocks came onto the track for their feature event next, with points leader Eric Wilson taking the lead from Paul Smith with five laps to go, and taking the victory. Paul Smith finished in second, followed by Doug McLanchlan, Rick Speith, and Brandon Delong.

The Pure Stocks were up next for the final feature event of the weekend. Shawn Perkins took the win, followed by Tod Thoms, Tony Carlin, Charles Bohne, and Shawn Moulten.
