Review 1:

RULA BROWN- ALBUM REVIEWED: POSITIVITY, released 2000. Reviewer’s assessment
of artist and
album: HIGHEST RATING. Yet another great album from
Rula! Yeah man, conscious lyrics abound
over rugged riddims and the singing crisp as ever.
Musicians include the Firehouse Crew so you know
quality was job one here. The first cut is nice and
then is followed by an adapted version of BRANDY. I
really like the title track. The best part of this CD
is that every dollar made is being donated to the
Granny-ICY Academic Scholarship. Get this CD now!

Review 2:

Artist : Rula Brown

Project : CD - Positivity

Label : Bee Cat Records

New album from the versatile artist / producer Rula Brown. Following the
same style of his 95's CD - "Rula", "Positivity"
is a wicked and terrific set with romantic songs, using some of the
"old" greatest Studio One Rhythms, ""Brandy" (rhythm original "I'm
Just A Guy" by Mr. Alton Ellis"), the incredible remake of one of my
favorite songs ever, "If I Gave My Heart To You", " I
Knew I Loved You Before I Met You" (Savage Garden original), the perfect
combination "Keep In Touch" with Jack Radics,
"Merry Go Round" (Junior Delgado classic) and off course the beautiful
original compositions, "You Are So Lovely" and
"Got To Give Her Love" (utilizing the rhythm of the song "Rock My Boat"
by Bob Marley).

VERY IMPORTANT :

All the proceeds made of this compact disc will be donated to the
Granny-ICY Academic Scholarship in Jamaica, for students who plan to
further their education so what are you waiting for ?

After 5 previously strong cd's the versatile Rula Brown comes
up with
a masterful album entitled 'Positivity'. The album is a
varied collection
of sweet and smooth lovers songs, roots tunes and message
songs.
Rula Brown sure knows to pick the right riddims and perfect
covers to
harmonize with his voice, which reminds me of Richie
Stephens.
Every dollar made of this compact disc is being donated to
the
Granny-ICY Academic Scholarship.
After the uptempo opening track comes a great adaption of
Brandy
across Alton Ellis' 'I'm Just A Guy' riddim. Finally someone
has the
guts to cover John McLean's mid-eighties ultimate lovers tune
If I
Gave My Heart To You. Rula Brown's voice is the perfect
instrument
for this song and I just love it ! The ballad I Knew I Loved
You Before
I Met You from Savage Garden is next and Rula's rendition
comes
very close to the original. After this Rula teams up with
crooner Jack
Radics for a duet called Keep In Touch.
This tune is followed by Junior Delgado's Merry Go Round.
Originally
Jux recorded this one for Sly & Robbie, but Rula's
interpration has
quality all over. The title track Positivity is a self
penned, strong
message song. The duet with Victor Ranking "Stop Giving Away
Your
Life" is done across a hard digital Firehouse Crew riddim.
You Are So
Lonely licks Bob Andy's 'Fire Burning'. The late great Curtis
Mayfield
provided numerous songs which were used by a variety of
reggae
artists, and Rula Brown pays tribute to this superstar with
his version
of Talking About My Baby. Further soul classics covers
include The
World Is A Ghetto from War, There's Nothing Better Than Love
which was written by Luther Vandross and "Love Has No Colour"
from
B & C Winans and Baby Face.
The variety of tunes found here makes this compact disc one
of my
favorite albums of the year 2000, but I have to say that two
tunes
found here should have been left out : the tear jerker Deck
Of Cards
and George Michael's Faith.
