Notes on Anna Elizabeth Lenz

From the Manning Monitor, Manning, Iowa, September 1910:

Obituary of Mrs. Peter Claussen
The Funeral Was Held Last Saturday From the M. E. Church

Last week we published in these columns a few lines announcing the death of Mrs. Peter Claussen. The funeral was held Saturday at the Methodist church. Rev. Feuchte spoke from the text Eph. 2:5, and his words brought comfort to the hearts of those sorrowing. Friends and relatives later followed the remains to the Manning cemetery where they were laid to rest until Resurrection day.
Anna Claussen was born in Brunsbuttel, Germany, the 15th day of June, 1841, and died the 21st day of September, 1910, being at her death 69 years, 3 months and 6 days old. With her father, Andrew Lentz, she in 1858 came to this country. At this time she was 17 years old. Her mother had died four years before. Coming to Wheatland, Iowa, she later married John Schmidt. Soon after they moved to West Side, Iowa. She and her husband were blessed with a large family--six sons and two daughters. Death however has called two to the land beyond. In 1879 the faithful husband and loving father died, leaving the mother to support the children. Two years later she was again married. The man of her choice was Peter Claussen and to this union one daughter was born.
The death of Mrs. Claussen is mourned by the husband, seven children, twenty grand-children and three great-grand-children and a number of friends. The children surviving are:

                    Wm. Schmidt, St. Peter, Minn
Mrs. J. P. Arp, Sioux City
Mrs. Wm. Behrens, Egan, S. D.
                    Chas. Schmidt, Manning
                    John Schmidt, Fargo, N. D.
Frank Schmidt, Mt. Vernon, S. D.
                    Mrs. Al Fiola, Weston, Iowa

Those from out of town who attended the funeral were: Mrs. William Schmidt, Draper, S. D.; Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Arp, Sioux City; Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Behrens, Egan, S. D.; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Schmidt, Mt. Vernon, S. D.; John Schmidt, Fargo, N. D.; Mr. and Mrs. Al Fiola, Weston, Ia.; Mrs. Lisle Schmidt, College Spring, Ia.; Mr. H. Schroeder, Boone, Ia.; Mr. and Mrs. Herman Marten and daughter, West Side; Mr. Aug. Voss, West Side.
Again a loving mother is called home. Her work here on earth was well done. She leaves a family of excellent sons and daughters, the fruits of her hours of careful training and directing. Her spirit now is among the angels of heaven waiting for the loved ones to come.
A great many friends extend their sympathy to the bereaved ones in their loss of wife and mother.
