Master Chief Gregory K. Shaw
STSCM(SS) GREGORY K. SHAW
Master Chief Shaw is a native of Beaverton, Michigan. He enlisted in the Navy in 1985 and attended Recruit Training in Great Lakes, IL. After completion of Basic Submarine School and Sonar Technician Submarines “A” and “C” Schools, he reported aboard the USS CAVALLA (SSN 684) home ported in Pearl Harbor, HI. While assigned, he completed two deployments to the Western Pacific and earned his Silver Dolphins.
Following additional technical training in 1988, he reported aboard his second submarine, USS TINOSA (SSN 606), home ported in Groton, CT. There he completed North Atlantic and South American deployments. TINOSA was awarded a Meritorious Unit Citation.
In 1992 he reported to Naval Submarine Training Center Pacific, Pearl Harbor, HI. There he completed instructor training and taught various sonar courses. He also qualified as a Master Training Specialist and received a baccalaureate degree in Political Science from Hawaii Pacific University.
In 1996, he reported aboard USS TOPEKA (SSN 754) and served as Weapons Department and Sonar Chief. He completed three Western Pacific Deployments. TOPEKA was awarded Submarine Squadron Seven Tactical “T” Award for 1998 and 1999. In November, 2000, he reported aboard the USS KEY WEST (SSN 722) as Chief of the Boat.
Master Chief Shaw is authorized to wear the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with one gold star and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with two gold stars.
Master Chief Shaw is married to the former Yvette Rosas of Brooklyn, NY
and they have a daughter, Hennessy and son, Benjamin.
